Hey guys,
Just thought i'd see what people's views were on my internet woes...
Basically, for the last 4-5 months, i've been having a really "lacking" internet connection.
What happens is that, i lose connection randomly throughout the day, whether it be whilst browsing websites, playing WoW, downloading (i don't use P2P) it just randomly stops and i have to wait about 5 minutes for it to get back on its feet. I don't download much at all, about 4-5Gb a month at best.
I've checked my router (Netgear DG834G v3) numerous times, the connection lights indicate everything is hunky dory, i've upgraded to the latest firmware, restarted it, everything i can think of. Sometimes i get 2Mb speeds, other times 5Mb speeds.
I've tried reinstalling my Wireless card (WG311T) and upgrading drivers etc too, im the only wireless connection on the network, the router is connected to the main socket and the downstairs PC via Ethernet cabling.
I've rang BT, but they're as helpful as a chocolate teapot, "check filters, test socket, etc" which i've done before even ringing them.
The first time i rang, they said that there was a fault on the line, and that it wasn't synching. So they rang me when that was fixed, everything was fine (at least it didnt disconnect whenever i was using it at least) but then it started happening again.
Rang them again, "no problems on the line" apparently. They then said they'd escalate it to the engineers, got a call saying it was fixed, was never told what "IT" was, even when i asked.
Still, the problem persists, after numerous phone calls to BT since, with the same results. It also doesn't help that, i can't understand the guy on the other end 95% of the time, 1. because of his accent being very "thick". 2. because the connection is terrible and crackly. 3. Because im getting angrier and angrier every word he reads off the screen...
For a "British" company, BT seem to employ anyone that doesnt have english as a first language...
Any idea's on how i could fix my problem?
Apologies for the long post and the tiny rant, but it's just getting tiresome, all i want is a consistent connection, not even a really fast one, i'm resigned to the fact i'll never get a good speed at the very least...
