I'm on Unlimited BT Infinity 2 package getting 60/20 speed with no problems but I have just checked my bank statement that my contract has expired and I'm now getting charged £25.70 for broadband, £18.99 line rental and £2.70 unlimited evening and weekend calls add-on so I was wondering should I ring them up and see if they can offer me a better deal or switch to a different ISP and use Quicdo/TCB for cashback?

Been with BT since I moved in 15 years ago and never had any dropouts or problems with them but I'm worried if I switch to a different ISP like Plusnet, they may have problems.

The local line, FTTC street cabinet, etc. are all controlled by Openreach. This will be the same whoever you get the connection from.

I've been with Plusnet for a few years now and it's been very reliable. Certainly no worse than BT have been over the same period.

If you do decide to move let the new provider handle everything. Don't get involved with the cancellation of the existing service.

Plusnet uses exactly the same infrastructure as BT though - just different customer support model, and slightly slower access to new products/packages that BT launch.

In most cases you have to get involved with cancelling the existing service - if only to request the MAC code.

Didn't have an issue when I changed from AOL/TalkTalk to Plusnet. Rang up AOL told them I wanted to cancel, got a MAC code from them. Signed up with Plusnet and gave them the MAC, new router and details arrived next day, couple of days later AOL stopped working - changed login details over on existing router to plusnet and working straight away. AOL billed to end of month that account was still "live", and then nothing further from them.

If you have an FTTC line then moving to a new ISP should be very straight forward. Its if you move ADSL to FTTC when the fun begins.

I will ring BT on Monday and see if they can price match Plusnet prices as they seem to be the cheapest out of all the ISPs I have checked however I don't think they will give me shopping vouchers as I'm a existing customer.

BT Line Rental Saver is ridiculously expensive at £205.08 for a year, I remember paying around £170 last year for it and Plusnet is £185.88 for a year.

Am I right in thinking you can't opt to take another LRS from another company perhaps?

i.e keep Infinity but take out LRS only on Plusnet. I know on Plusnet they offer "broadband only" but not sure on BT.

I don't think so.

I'd plan to move everything to a new provider so you get the full benefit of the new customer discounts and offers.

Once you've decided on a new provider contact BT and see if they discount enough to keep you as a customer.

Don't forget cashback, topcashback or quidco.

I don't think BT will be able to beat a new ISP deal + cashback.

If I signed up to Plusnet, the cashback on TopCashBack is £42 or up to £85 on Quidco. I'm thinking that if BT can price match Plusnet prices and send me the new Smart Hub then I can sell that off on the bay and use my current HH5 which will work the same as the cashback.

On Quidco, it says up to £85 but how do I know how much I will get?

The up to £85 will depend on what you subscribe to. For example the cashback will be higher for Fibre than it is for ADSL.

If I'm reading it correctly the Quidco offer is for broadband only rather than broadband+phone. The TopCashBack offer is broadband+phone but isn't very generous at the moment.

Cashback rates and offers vary a lot. If you can wait something better may come along.

With cashback treat it as a potential bonus. It does usually track and pay, but there's no absolute guarantee you'll ever see the money.
