Got a letter from BT today saying i can now benefit from upto 20MB. Impressive as the switchover date for 21CN WBC was next year on samknows. I was originally going to hop onto ADSL24 (from 02 Access) but this has put a spanner in the works.

Who do i get broadband from now?

If your exchange is WBC enabled then Enta (such as a reseller like ADSL24) can provide you with ADSL2 services just as BT or any other provider who is on the platform.

Check if o2 have equipment on your exchange. If they do I would highly reccomend them.

I have been with most ISP's over the years and was one of the 1st people on dsl2 a few years back when it was available. At the Time I had dsl2 with bulldog and was getting 23meg ( a bit unstable ) as after talking to them we capped it at 22. I was also getting 2.2 upload which was amazing. Since then I have been with bt and to be honest bt are the worst company I ever went with.

Not only is the service more expensive than anyone else they have the worst customer service and worst fair usage policy.

O2 are one of the only companies out there at the moment without a fair usage policy and the support is top. Plus the price is amazing. If you are an O2 mobile customer you will get dsl2 upto 20 meg for about 17 notes a month and this will also give you 1.5meg upload.

Check them out.

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for replies :)

If i understand this correctly, i can get Entanet's 24MB (1.4MB upload) but it has nothing to do with their LLU as they buy that from Be/02? The only thing now is that download cap. I was really looking forward to an unlimited service on 21CN. I suppose with offpeak being 8pm and no cap at weekend, i can do big stuff there. Just comes down to how good the 21CN is at weekend. I heard some horror stories on the 8MB at weekends. Is this the same? The interconnect i'll be on is allmost always at full load. (Glasgow)

I've tried a lot of broadband companies over the past 6 years.

The best ones :

Bulldog (before Tiscali/pipex bought them, not sure how they are now)

BE (Uncapped, awesome speed and support)

O2 (not as good as the other 2, but worth mentioning)

Avoid BT at all costs. They offer a capped connection, throttle bandwidth, pricey and have the worst support I've seen (20+ mins on the phone)

For cable, Virgin is a no brainer.

Entanet have generally been a good providers - they have some capacity issues at the moment it would seem though but I'd think you will get better performance from then than a lot of other providers.

Zen would always be my first choice for ADSL if Be wasn't available and you could live with the download cap or can stomach the price for their unlimited service.

At the end of the day unless you can get an LLU provider IMO it is fair to say that you can't get a decent (and what you define as decent will depend on your own expectations I suppose) "unlimited" use provider without it costing a lot of money, that is just the way it works so either modify your internet usage habits to fit around download caps / peak and off-peak times etc. or just bite the bullet and pay for the bandwidth you consume and quit bitching.

Now that BT are upping speeds, will they increase download limits? People will hit the limits much more now. 10GB for the non-unlimited packages seems a bit low.

Meh. I was under the impression they'd done it on them generally! I mainly deal with the business ones found here TBH:
http://www.zen.co.uk/Broadband/ML_Business/medium-large-business-broadband.aspx

Yes they've put a limit on the unlimited one now, but jesus if you manage to use over a terabyte!! ;) The 100GB one use to be 50GB.

I would hope and expect of Zen that they change the other ones too, may be not got round to it yet? They're right in the middle of it all at the moment.

I know with our customers it really won't make much of difference on usage though. Why would it? Same old activity still going off. Even at home I don't think I would use more, I'd still do the same old, just quicker.

It was mentioned to me that we'd be getting a old/new comparison list of the packages. I shall follow this up!

Thanks,
Shell

What a tough decision choosing an ISP is. I think i'll just go on the Office 45 (21CN) package with ADSL24. I know Entanet sucks but it can't be worse than what i have now.

Maybe being on 21CN will help.

is sky worth going for then? My exchange is 21cn and as a BT Openreach employee i get free BT Bband but hoping for reduncancy in december (nice wedge and job sux now) so will deffo be moving ISP once I have to start opaying for the bugger :)

I am on 8mb package now and get 7.5mb ish and about .4 up (supposed to go upto 20mb etc in November)

I think Sky use their own LLU stuff. It seems only BT, Zen and Entanet use 21CN.
