Have just bought a BT Freestyle 750 set of wireless phones, but if I plug the base into my existing extension lead there is no dialing tone, my old wireless phone set works ok with the same lead.
If I plug the new base unit into my master socket with the cable supplied it works ok but it is in the wrong place for me to get a good signal in my outside office.
In the instructions it says to make sure you use the supplied cable.
My extension cable has the normal BT plug at one end which is plugged into the master socket via a filter and the other end has what I think is called a RJ45 plug which plugged straight into the old base station.
My extension lead is a few years old, so has the wiring in these changed recently and that is why they say use the supplied cable or do I have to get a special one
Thanks

It is possible that the telephone lead you have in place is wired differently to the standard of your incoming phone. I've seen leads such as this wired to the inner two conductors and others to the outer two. I'm not sure if there is a standard for BT plug to RJ11 leads. It's not easy to rewire the extisting lead as all connectors are not adjustable so you would need to remove the connector, adjust and fit a new one, respecting the wiring of the new phone.

It's better to wire in a proper telephone extension from the master to the location and then plug the new lead as supplied into that. Don't go buying a £1 special though. Get something with a proper twisted pair.
