I've been waiting till black friday before I make a decision on what broadband to go for but BT has this offer right now when I go to the "upgrade broadband" page on the website.

Another reason for waiting is because YouFibre SHOULD be going live in approx 2-3 months so I can get their deals. 500/75 vs 1000/1000 for around the same price. The BT reward card makes it more like £26.99 a month but I know April 2024 will have a price rise so I'm more like paying what on average £31.99 a month or something. I can likely get YouFibre black friday 1000/1000 for £25.99 and maybe a static ip thrown in. If not it will be £29.99 but no price rise so works out slightly cheaper.

Should I go in now or wait?

Thanks

Bear in mind that the 24 month contract will be hit with price rises twice, they were nearly 15% this April if I recall correctly. Still a decent price.

What does the little * on the price say?

BT are one of those companies where you have a “fixed” price contract that isn’t fixed because they increase the price every year. Might not work out that cheap if you stay with them.

I've been in contact with BT and they have now also added a £30 account credit on top of the £75 reward card.

Why are they so desperate?

I’d wait for you fibre. Don’t support companies who increase their prices above inflation.

Worth checking their post contract prices too, as if you forget to upgrade, the inflation impacts that price too.

E.g. my post contract price was £59, but due to the price increases, when I was actually out of contract it was in the 70s.

Exactly. All the companies exploiting the price increase option should be avoided like the plague.

Little known idea of 'competition'.. ?
Yeah but competition doesn't exist is my point. Your average person doesn't even know what YouFibre is.

The only competition is Openreach FTTP in which BT, TalkTalk, Sky etc compete for you. The cheapest BT ever offered 500 before was £31.99 and that was only very specific areas. There was no £75 reward or anything else. The cheapest is normally £34.99 for 500. Maybe we will see like £33 in Black Friday from other companies which is why I'm so skeptical. They aren't just giving this price out of the goodness of their hearts.

As people said I don't think I can be bothered with all this price increase that you don't actually know the exact amount if will increase by. I will wait abit longer for YouFibre and if that fails I will go to Aquiss.

There is competition even within the Openreach ISPs. Want the bargain-basement price with minimal support then NowTV, Vodafone or TalkTalk are where you should be heading. If you want something better then Zen have a reasonable offer and if you want top-end then you’re looking at Aquiss or Andrews & Arnold.

And for me, any company implementing an automatic inflation-linked price increase is to be avoided simply because I can pretty much guarantee your income won’t go up at the same rate.

If you go with BT 500 and you're a new customer, then you can get around £80 cashback via topcashback.

I signed up with them a few months ago when youfibre were not available in my area at them time and they have already paid the £80 into my account.

They also paid me an extra £160 for botching up my installation by a couple of months.
