I've just moved house and the previous occupant let their phone line get disconnected through BT.

BT now want to charge us £124.99 to reconnect to their service. I think this is outrageous as there are two BT phone points already in the appartment.

I have pretty much settled on Be* as our ISP but want to avoid the £124 charge if possible. Are there any other alternatives or have BT got me by the short n curlies?

Thanks for any advice.

We had cable in the old house but this appartment is a new build and unfortunately cable isn't in the building :(

I wonder how much BT make a week out of this little scam of theirs?

This is REALLY annoying me now. BT are still sending bills to the property for the previous occupant, directory enquiries shows a landline number for her and it was provided by BT. BT are saying there is not a BT line in the property and as a result its £125 plus an engineer visit to get us back.

I want BE internet. BT want to charge this insane 125 quid reconnection charge. Talk Talk say they will connect my landline for free.

Will a talk talk line work with BE internet? Or does it have to be BT.

It's really irritating me now as BT must make thousands out of this scam

why don't you ring BE and asked them if a talk talk supplied line will work?

reason why i think it will is because the line is still owned by BT but you pay your bills to talk talk

this should work fine if u get just the line with talk talk and then a broadband service like BE.

reason i think your be ok is that one of my friends moved in to a new flat same problem and hes done just that.

Have emailed BE to see if I am okay with talk talk. BT can dream on if they think I am going to give them 125 sovs for flicking a switch and connecting a bit of wire!

Just watch you don't get TalkTalk LLU, then your only option for ADSL will be TalkTalk.
I'd have thought TT would want to charge you exactly the same as BT though, given they'll be charged exactly the same by Openreach...

The guy on the phone at TalkTalk said my address was coming up as free installation last night.

I am loathe to use TalkTalk but am equally loathe to pay 125 quid to BT for little to no work. Especially as the previous occupant only got disconnected in October and we moved in in Nov.

the phrase "my address" implies to me that its their LLU offering

i could be wrong, make sure you get a BT line, it could well be they're willing to stomach the £125 openreach charge in order to get business for which they're desparete for.
