Hi,

i have recently moved house to somewhere with BT broadband and a BT HH2. (:()

I have a Draytek Vigor 2820 so obviously want to be using the BT thing for as little as possible!

I was on virgin before so all was very simple -

Virgin > Modem > Draytek > Wireless - boom, done!

Now i have moved to this new place the adsl is new to me, i was hoping for something along the lines of -

BT > HH (as modem) > Draytek > Wireless

Currently - i can get a 'limited' connection via wireless to the HH but no internet access as soon as i boot the Draytek?

So firstly - is this even possible and if so what settings do i use? Do i need to disable DNS/DHCP? if so, on which router?

Im sure im setting something up incorrectly but no idea what!

Basically, i am a novice to networking (realitive to you guys) and havent got a clue what setting to use/not use/disable/enable etc etc. Would someone be kind enough to give me some advise - walk me through what to do..!

Please help..!! I realise this is a bit of a ramble but this has been doing my head in for days going round and round - happy to provide more clarifaction if required!

Hi Frank, i asked a similar question to yours, only in my case it was a HH3 to Asus router. The general opinion was it is possible, but you get a situation called 'double NATing' (nope i don't understand it either!). The solution i was given was to buy a Draytek Vigor 120, which is just a modem and makes life a lot easier. I managed to get one from btshop for only £20, which is lessthan the cost of a HH3.
hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply - does kinda help however i was hoping to

A) Not have to spend anymore money
B) Have to talk to the clowns @ BT

Im sure there must be a way to lock down the HH and port the tinternet to the Draytek to look after the network..... - i just dont know what im doing...! lol

EDIT: just checked - the Draytek 120's are fifty quid now!

The 2820 has an ADSL modem built-in. Connect it in place of the HH2 and enter your BT connection details.

Good news! Tbh, breifly did that last night thinking the same - but it was close to 3am i was close to the end of my rope and it didnt work so went to bed.. Glad you have confirmed my thoughts - will have a proper play with that tonight... That BT HH think is another 4 letter word for "pants"!

Thanks for responses.

I ended up going straight from the phone line to the draytek and with a bit of messing of settings its working well, have to say draytek's are fantastic bit of kit! Highly recommended.

Quick question though - Will the ethernet port on the back of PC act as an "out"?

The PC is too far from the router for a cable but i wanted to get the RPi working again... So, is it possible (assuming PC is on) to have, Wireless 'in' ethernet 'out' to Pi and tv?
