Hello fellow Overclockers,

soon i am to be getting my second pc which will be primarily used for gaming and i am struggling to see the best connection method. however this is my situation so far with the first pc.

I have the BT HomeHub 2.0, the hub is set up through the telephone line w/ the filter, when the hub was installed I did not install the disk that came with it, so the Nat settings etc will all be to the default.

However, the hub is next to the tv which is also plugged into the hub, their are quite a lot of wires so i am paranoid about it causing some kind of interference, my computer DOWNstairs is about 2m away from the exchange, and yet i have got the pc connected via a 10m cat5 eth cable, the speeds arn't too great but i think thats to do with the hardware too being abit old and rusty and the system being quite old.

the Second pc is going to be upstairs, thinking about drilling through the walls and getting an ethernet wired, would this be the best option?.. i was also thinking IF needed, or to better myself speed wise.. to get an router and connect it up to the hub, if that is possible with the hubs settings eg? PLEASE PLEASE shine some light on this for me!

Yes running an ethernet cable to the second PC is the best option, if it is possible to do. I'm not quite sure what you mean by your last line though, you don't need another router. The speed over ethernet won't drop for the distances you are looking for.

Might be worth getting BT to send you a Homehub 3 to replace the 2 as well.

ahh I understand. i meant was to buy another router and to connect it to the hub, if thats possible to do, in order to boost my connection speed.

will BT send me a HomeHub3? all I knoe is that it's contracted and we can't get off it xD.

It won't make any difference to the connection speed :) Yeah they should send you one, if you say the HH2 is playing up or something. It is far better.

surely I wouldent be able to ring up BT and ask them to put me on the HomeH3, I can imagine them once I have said the current one is playing up for them to put me on to a technician of some kind over the phone. I would need to do it propperly xD.

Or just ask for the HH3 then :p You would get it if you signed up now with them, most people I speak to who have BT end up with several after phoning up with trivial issues not related to it :)

ok, i shall ring them and atleast try to get the HH3, will be worth it i guess.. even tho BT infinity is not im my area atm! :(.

cheers for the clearence Duke, mutchly apreciated mate!

I had a bit of brain ache reading this thread..

Just to confirm, the HomeHub is a router. Albeit not the best.

You can't have two routers in your setup. (Well you can, but it's pointless and you won't gain anything)

if you don't get one, i think i have a HH2.0 in the cupboard you can have. Don't want any money for it. just cover the postage.

thanks for the offer mate, but I curently have the HH 2.0 and I am looking to get my hands on the HH 3 xD!.. thanks for the offer tho, great guy!
