Hi,

My internet has been fine with BT since september last year, however last night the internet cut out twice. So i unplugged the hub and replugged it as this usually sorts it out, turns out it had somehow reset my ip profile.

The stats from the hub were 576kbps down and 278 up. They should be 8,128kb down and 488 up.

I called BT and apparently im on a "narrowband" account, as to why they have this on their records god knows, but now the ip profile stats from the hub are back to normal but my download speed is a whopping 60kbps

I thought they may have reset it but im not sure, its weird how they claim im on a narrowband account yet have had over 8meg speeds for a year

So do i need to contact them again or will the speed increase within a few days? (like when you first setup the net)

Thanks :)

They're talking garbage, not that your problem lies with your IP profile - and the Hub doesn't report your IP profile, but rather your sync rate.
If your sync rate's dropped to 576/288 kbps, you've been regraded to home500. That would explain why you'd only get ~60kB/s.

They're going to have to regrade you back to Max if you're ever going to see any increase.

ok well why would they suddenly change my account for no reason? I have never contacted them or its never been authorised that we want to be downgraded.

also on the site it says im still on broadband option 3, but they say im on narrowband..so is there anything i should say to them so i can talk to someone who can sort it out, rather than the people who attempt to sort it by resetting the hub.

However my sync rate reported by the hub it says im connected at 8,128kbps down, though would it still report that no matter what my actual connection im receiving is?

also this is a speed test i have just done what a state http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/119117793991056013312.html

It was fine until 7pm on saturday so they must have downgraded it then :(

If it's saying that, you're back on Max. Run the BT Speedtest and see what your IP profile is set to.

i can't run it it freezes when it says "your details will be verified after clicking go" and then says the system is busy. im only getting 200kbps from blueyonder games site, i used to get 850. :(

:\ is there anyother way to check my ip profile?

Just called them and they say we are on narrowband but i cant do anything till tommrow when the order management desk is open..

The ISP should be able to say what your IP profile is, but you'd have more luck getting sense out of a wall than BT Retail.

yeah..calling india is not fun.

they are saying its narrowband, so would the sync to the exchange not be 576kbps like it was on saturday evening? It's a state that they have changed our package and i bet anything the price is still £26 ;)

well in that case shouldn't i be getting the speeds i usually do get? they are saying they have changed the package yet im still connecting at 8mb..

i just got this from bt speedtester: The IP address discovered on the network associated with your telephone number: did not match the one we have logged from this browser/connection. Please check your telephone number and try again. If problem persists please contact your CP.

IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6147 kbps

i think it used to be at 8,128 so i would get over 7mb..no idea why it's changed back. it was still slow last night. :\

They don't have a clue why my account is narrowband and are saying its PAYG basically lol.
