BT Home Hub v2 a complete joke

So my dad has a BT Home Hub v.2 that he asked me to take a look at.

Supposedly it supports wireless 'n', so after upgrading adapters in his two PCs he was hoping for a nice speed increase. From what I can tell though the max speed is still limited to 54Mbps despite the 'n' classification. Indeed it seems that only the wireless range enhancements made it into the device.

On top of this disappointment if he tries to transfer files larger than about 400 megabytes, the hub kicks off all connected wireless devices until it gets a reboot.

Long story short, he can't replace it with a 3rd party device as he has opted for the BT VOIP phone service that the hub offers to establish a business line on, and would be too much ball-ache to change the number at this point.

I suppose he could add a switch, but he would prefer to keep it to one device.

Does anyone know of any tricks to solve this problem, maybe some custom firmware?

Cheers

1) The wifi in mine connects fine at 130Mbps.
2) The uploading issue is a known fault, make sure you're on the latest firmware.

+1 and ours doesn't like our sons iplod touch, when he connects it slows down to a crawl. The firmware is on the login screen
http://192.168.1.254 will tell you, on the bottom of the screen. I also tend to assign static ip's as this seems to help loads with any problems we seem to get, even the xbox is on a static ip now which is hard work! I have router > gigabit switch and this has alos improved the general network stability. I know it's not a great idea but if I have any problems the router can be switched out/over easily.
Without getting into wifi generally, it's quite hard to actually get fantastic connection speeds even with n hardware, far too many things can interfere. Have you tried different channels? Have you tried assigning a static channel? I eventually had to assign a static channel as inteference from other routers in our area means only a couple pf channels are actually any good...
