BT HOME HUB

It crap,

I have a bt home hub, thankfully they screwed up and sent me the voyager 2500v first off, then the home hub.

With the home hub i get frequent disconects and such, with the voyager no problems what so ever.

The only good thing i found with the hub was the wireless range was good.

The voyagers range isnt bad though.

HomeHub 0
Voyager 2

Had the Home Hub for about 3 weeks... Absolute steaming pile IMO.

Always dropping wireless conenction, always dropping broadband connection, had to re-flash the box yesterday just to get it working again and it's dropped the line every 30 seconds for the last hour now.

Oh yeah, and I haven't received the phone yet.

EDIT----

And it keeps losing the date/time settings, clearing the logs by itself, resetting user accounts, defaulting itself !!!

Went to one of my managers houses today where i work to test out his adsl connection. We took along a Linksys and Dratek router to test, when we got there we found he already had one of these BT Hubs.

Definately the worst router I have ever used....Wireless was dropping out when the laptop was right next to it, using ping -t the replys from the router were taking between 5-4000ms and not to mention the constant drop outs, worth mentioning that we tried 3 different laptops also using Centrino wireless and Cisco cards. Wired connection were ok and the line was holding solid. Totally useless for wireless though.

Tried the Linksys and Draytek and both had decent wireless in comparison, i would defo steer well clear of those routers :)

Working again atlast, guaranteed it won't last too long.

There's supposed to be a new firmware coming out some time in November that should fix the problems LOL

One thing I've found that helps with the wireless dropouts is to change the channel setting, they have it set to auto but it always selects chan 1. Setting it manually to 11 helped improve things a lot for me.

They don't make it obvious as to where you can change this setting, but I've found 2 ways.

One is to save the config, open the file and search for channel - Change from auto to whatever you want to try, save then restore the updated config.

Other way is to change user to admin, go to advanced, home network, interfaces, select the router, then select config and there's an option in there.

Not overly impressed here either. It looks good from a distance but feels plasticy and cheap. Straight out of the box, the wireless range was pitiful and connection to the internet is tempramental. Changing wireless channels has improved things but it'll probably be replaced in favour of an older spare router. I'm more interested in the line speed than any extra features the hub itself has to offer.

Though the associated telephone shown in promotions isn't beeing sent out yet, the replacement they provide is quite nice to BT's credit. Plus you get to keep it when they eventually send out the correct one.

Had the exact same problems. cancelled my contract after bout 2 weeks. One thing i want to clear up though...what were your download speeds like? I was connected at 8meg but never got above 200kbs. is that normal?

their crap simple as,

using the voyager i have no problems getting decent downloads of 500k+

on the home hub, it was getting 180k+ tops

pur rubbish, i am going to cancel as soon as sky confirm i can have sky bb.

I'm on my second Home Hub now.

Just a question has anyone managed to actually network with this thing?

I have put it in my garage and am using my old belkin router because I could not get it (home hub) to allow my computers to share files and MCE 05 streaming (to X360) was impossible.

The indian call center was crap as well, they didn't speak very good english and had below par knowledge of networking.

So, did anyone manage to get file/print sharing or even FTP?

Yep, seems to work ok here with a wired desktop, wireless desktop and a couple of laptops all sharing happily. Wireless strength could be better though, and it sometimes won't assign an IP to wireless clients, though a 'repair' sorts this.

Hum...

Got this yesterday. 7.1MB

Router. Has a lot of bugs. Firmware though so not worried. Had 2 disconnects but still not worried.

A couple of bugs.

1: Change the wireless settings and it will lock you out. You have to restore factory defaults.

2: Deletes logs... it's telling me my total download is 100MB yet I know I have downloaded 8 GB in the past 24 hours.

Free DECT phone is nice. Not fussed about the voip phone rly.

Bah not what i wanted to hear. Mine comes on Tuesday, and looked a nice peice of kit for free. Luck i've still got an old voyager 205 to use although i could fry an egg on it

On a tangent ... can the linksys wrt54g be used on BT BB instead? have one of them kickin about from when we had cable before the move.

Not without adding an ethernet ADSL modem.

Just a matter of asking and insisting that a replacement hub isn't acceptable. I got passed around departments a bit, but eventually someone in the UK sales dept agreed to dispatch one. That said, I don't know if the additional services BT hopes to roll out like BT Vision will require the hub so I'd make a reasonable attempt to get it working well before going for an alternative.
