I have a BT Homehub 5. It is located just outside my bedroom however it always seems to drop out. It will have periods of being stable and then connect/disconnect 10+ times in a single sitting over the course of 1/2 a day.

What alternatives are there?

Budget would be around £50.

It'll be accessed by 8+ people in a large house if that makes a difference so around 12 devices in total including Xbox and people's phones.

Im also getting this as of this last week. sometimes frequently and sometimes spread out. but at least a handful a day of the router light going orange or green for a few minutes. Its been rock stable until now.

This can happen at all times of the day, bandwidth and latency remain great between disconnects and it doesn't appear to be any significant load on the line causing the router to crap out.

Where in the logs should I be looking?

What's losing connection exactly? You wired to the router/power lines? Wifi is dropping out? Router losing sync?

The router is losing connection to the internet. As such all wired and wireless devices have limited conectivity for several minutes. This can happen every half hour and sometimes it can go several hours being fine. But for the last about 5 days it is happening at least 4 o 5 times in a 24 hour period. WIt as many as perhaps 10 (that I've been around to witness)

The line and hub are only about 6 months old IIRC and until now has been rock solid. As mentioned, once the router has reconnected the speeds and pings are all excellent. But obviously the random disconnects can be extremely frustrating.

I'm om the 80/20 package. Considering buying a new router anyway for a bit more customisation option and the whole public wifi access thing irks me somewhat (except when I'm using it naturally :P )

Look in the event log on the Home Hub. If it's a loss of sync then you might not fix it with a new router. In any case, you should be able to get a new one free of charge if it's only six months old.
