hi, im new here, i've got bt homehub and it WEP encripted which is a pain coz when i had linksys router for my old AOL i just clicked connect and i was connected, i want to be able to do that on my homehub so when my mates come round with there laptops they can just connect strait onto the internet, another thing is, i bourght Belkin G+ MIMO reciever for my laptop because i thought the signal would be superb, but its no different to my USB linksys wireless B card, is there something i need to do to it to make the signal better?

thanks for any help :)

lewis :)

Firstly, I'm not familiar with the home hub. If you're willing to let anyone in the neighbourhood steal your bandwidth, then you may be able to do this, unless BT (sensibly) disabled the option.

Secondly, I think for MIMO to work, as with most speed/signal boosting technologies, you need compatible hardware at both ends.

Oh right thanks, theres no one down my street who would steal it coz the youngest person near me is about 60 LOL and i think its unlikely they'll be able to use my broadband, plus it wont reach any of my neighboors coz it barely reaches my bedroom from my mums study and theres road on 2 sides of the house if you get me, but no one close enough to steal it.

thats what i heard about the MIMO just didnt know if it was true, anyway thanks for the help mate ;)

The HomeHub wireless seems to default to channel 1, which seems to be rubbish for most people.

11 seems to work best for me.

I've just received a BT Home Hub as an update from my USB router, and im curious as to how you change the channels?

Does this increase signal strength then?

Because when i access web pages my signal strength falls through the floor, and with my old Router, my signal strength used to say "Speed 100Mbps" and it now varies between 36 and 54??

Im a bit disappointed as my Signal Strength never used to fluctuate at all really, :(

2 ways to change the channel.

1: Save the config, open the file and search for "channel" change from "auto" to 11 then write the config back.

2: Hub manager as admin, advanced, home network, interfaces, select the hub, configure, change in there.

Got a really simple question on the home hub that I need to be certain on. Can you run a mixture of wired and wireless devices on it? I am sure you can but I just want to be 100%. Cheers.

Of course. Obviously you will need to purchase a switch if you are planning to run multiple wired devices.
