Hi guys,

I'm trying to network a Vista laptop and an XP PC via a BT HomeHub and am having trouble. The laptop is connected to the hub wirelessly, the desktop is wired. Both machines have been assigned to workgroup 'WORKGROUP' (original, eh?). I have disabled all software firewalls (ZoneAlarm, Windows Firewall) on both machines. On the Vista laptop, the wireless network is set as Private, and 'Network discovery', 'File sharing', and 'Public folder sharing' are all set to On. I have downloaded and installed the Layer Topology Discovery Responder for XP as detailed here: http://www.computerworld.com/action/...9&pageNumber=3, which enabled the Vista laptop to see the XP desktop in the network map.

Here's what happens when I look at My Network Places from the XP (desktop) machine:

No sign of the Vista laptop there. Here's what happens when I go to View Workgroup Computers:

So, the XP desktop knows that the Vista laptop is bout. However...

This is what happens when I double-click on 'Laptop' from the previous screen. I can't figure out why this happens, as the Vista laptop is configured to allow sharing, and has a bunch of folders made public to the network.

On the Vista side of things...

When I look at the Network side of things, this is what I see:

...and when I click 'Full Network Map' in Vista's Sharing and Network Center, I see this:

...so the laptop knows that the desktop is there. Double clicking on Desktop in the network map doesn't do anything.

I have run out of ideas as to why this isn't working. Can anyone enlighten me? I apologise if this is an elementary problem to post, but I am not so hot at the technological bizness.

Many thanks in advance.
