I know there are a load of threads about this but I want my own! ;)

My dad just upgraded to max and has been trying to install the homehub with me telling him what to do over the phone (at uni), not that he is listening...

Me "don't install anything, you dont need to"
Him "Yes I do, I connected the USB like it said"
Me "Use the ethernet cable, its better"
Him "Ok now its installing the drivers"...

GRR WTF!!

Anywho, having read the threads here and remembering things from previous things I have read it seems like its a pretty rubbish excuse for a router. Is this still true, does it constanty disconnect and have trouble with using P2P programs?

Anything else I should know?

I havent really been able to find much info on the net about it unfortunatly.

I am also thinking of getting a wireless card for my PC so that when I get home I can connect. Any recommendations as to which one? I assume I only need a 54Mbps one? I have no clue about anything to do with wireless and since the new website has hit i'm having trouble even guessing which ones might be suitable. :o

Thanks

It does have problems with disconnecting and the wireless yes.

How bad is the problem? I am hoping to be able to use it to stream video music from one PC to another. Is that likely to be possible?

From what my mate says who has one of these, no it wont be possible as his disconnects the wireless constantly.

It seems a new firmware update has been released this month, is this likely to have fixed the problems, or is it a hardware problem?

BT homehub is a technological tragedy, unnecessarily large glossy white box, only 2 ethernet ports, wifi which drops all the time and has poor range, terrible configuration web interface, poor performance, and the shipped 64bit WEP is laughably insecure.

Interesting.... so I should tell my mate not to sell his Netgear Router then. Just installed a Home Hub for him. Already had the hassle of only two Ethernet Sockets. (Two?!?!) So we have bounced one of the PCs onto WiFi. Not heard any real complaints from him yet.

(And I had all kinds of problems when using a cheap old 100-base Hub during copying of files.... I wonder if this was related to the cheapo BT Box then? )

Now I have subscribed to this thread, I want to see what other comments appear - good and bad.

What made me laugh is his Mum got the home hub ordered after reading about the VoIP built in.... assuming it would work with Skype.... especially when the idiot on Customer Support told her it would work fine
