My contracts up very soon with BT Broadband, can't say i have any complaint's about BT Broadband, had very little down time, downloaded what ever i wanted, speed's fine ,etc. But since we have Sky telly and phone package it would make sense to move over. Could forum member's who use Sky Broadband give me there view's, etc about it.

From personal experience its been great, ive had it since it first started and had literally couple hours of downtime, i live a mediocre distance from the exchange and get speeds of around 8-10mb which is always stabkle and can download as much as you want, if you game phone up tier 3 and get them to put ure max delays down to 8ms and your ping will reduce by a good amount. apart from them not having fast path you cant really fault them

Do Sky have LLU kit in your exchange? Have a look on Samknows if you're not sure. If they don't then you'd need to use their BT Wholesale based product which is a) not anywhere near as good as the LLU one and b) more expensive.

Wallsend Exchange - Broadband availability overview - LLU services: Yes - LLU operator presence -Sky / Easynet: Enabled as of 19/12/2006. Rpstewart can you kindly explain what difference LLU make's thank you.

LLU = Local Loop Unbundling.

Essentially, it allows other operators to install their own ADSL equipment into your local exchange, rather than relying on BT. Advantages are lower cost (no ongoing costs to BT) and often a better service.

I have Sky but a poor line. Rang Sky and they were really helpful in trying to get the speed up (which they did).

I've got sky, i came from virgin media (which is the best ISP).
Since moving to sky, DL from 16MB package is around 8-9MB, upload is 60-70 KB/S which is very good. Never been disconnected/lost connection, all on all allways fast.

I'd highly recommend it.

Goodbye BT Broadband Hello sky Broadband

Right just thought I’d bring you up to speed about my earlier thread “BT Broadband hoping to join Sky Broadband”. Well phoned BT up asked for my MAC code and asked for a seamless switch over and that I did not want to cancel my broadband, also mentioned I have Sky TV + Sky Talk. The customer adviser did not even make me a cheaper offer, to cut the storey short when we spoke to Sky about the move over it worked out we would save £20 a month, so what kind of profit do BT make on broadband alone. At the moment with BT I get 5.5MB TO 6.0MB so as I will be on Sky Max package hoping to get abit more speed, I’ll let you’s know what kind of speed I get when I’m on Sky.

I reckon BT make huge profits on broadband. We also saved about £20 a month by going from BT to Sky, and the service is just as good if not better. No other ISP could get away with BT's charges unless they were recognised as a 'premium' ISP, but I reckon a lot of people are just comfortable with the BT name, particularly as they'll have had BT before LLU and the charges tend to get lost in the phone bill.

If you factor in what they're paying to Wholesale (and their prices are fixed by Ofcom), the profit isn't so large. The price difference isn't so big if you can't get to Sky's LLU network...
