Hi guys i'll keep it brief.

Ordered virgin media 100mb package, disgusted by lack of upload (I wasn't aware of upload till I signed up I should have checked but assumed it would be ok) they don't state it anywhere however BT it's in plain sight....

I'm within 28 days of my contract so I think I can get out under their 28 days unhappiness guarantee and switch to infinity, because I want the 19mb upload for YouTube videos. I actually have to upload things for my own work that I do and cannot survive on 5mb upload that virgin offer... to be frank it's a joke.

So how does infinity compare to VM? I'm hoping the same or better but either way I have to switch.

Thanks for any advice.

Edit: Also reading the BT infinity thread I see people getting SILLY cheap deals on infinity 2? how are any of you managing that? I'm looking at infinity 2 76mb down and 19mb up on their website its 26 a month plus 15 line rental.

I Was getting 100/5 on VM which is poxy.

I luckily rang them today, the last day of my cooling off period LOL amazing timing so I've managed to get out of 18 months of pain...

I'd be going for a BT based fibre service if I could but there aren't any fibre cabinets in my area, so I'm stuck with Virgin for the time being.

Downloads wise, the speeds are good, and I just had my upload upped to 10Mb after asking them multiple times if they would/could do it, to which they always said no until I found out I could ask them to change my billing code and it would give me the 10Mb upload.

I haven't been "warned" as such for bandwidth usage, but I have had them sending me letters suggesting I must have malware on my computers because of how much bandwidth I use which is quite patronising.

Surely you read about the package before signing up. There arent many things to look at when selecting a broadband package.

Even I knew VM only do 5mb upload and I dont either fibre packages.

What are you uploading to Youtube that requires 19mb upload? 5mb should be plenty for most people.

They don't make the upload speeds obvious.

Nobody wants to wait a long time for a large HD video file to upload to YouTube.

It took me about 5 seconds to find it with google ;)

Its not obvious on their site but that would only make me search harder.

Looks like you should be able to get 10mb easily enough.

Goes up to 12mb when they release 120mb download speeds. Usually a free upgrade.

What large HD video would you be uploading to Youtube on a regular basis?

Yeh, you can bloody well forget streaming thats for sure.
I'm in the proccess of sacking Virgin and getting FTTC installed myself for that very reason.
Their new upload restriction is a god damn joke.

Not happy with BT right now.

Copy/paste from a thread on their forums.

Activated on the 20th May, and pretty much plain sailing until today. Noticed that I had no internet this morning, however thought nothing off it and assumed it would be back up by the time I got home.

Fast forward 8hrs, get home. And still nothing. Straight onto the phone to BT in india for 50minutes, following a script, reboot the HH, the VDSL modem, reset etc. Apparently they are getting an engineer on it. However, if its hardware based I have to wait until Monday for an engineer to turn up. This is not acceptable.

After 7 years with BE I never experienced an outage of more than 2hrs.

Now tried the hacked firmware for the HG612 and bypassed the HH3 and still now joy.

Anyway, I know the community won't be able to do anything, however if someone from BT is reading, I re-itterate. Monday is not acceptable. Call out engineers are available so use them.

I feel a bit sad for those of you who are stuck with Inferior internet options. Especially with all the CAPS on downloads, throttling and shaping. bah. I hope that it will change in the future because we need proper internet all over world. Im in a bit of lucky situation my self, sitting on 100/100 running at 130/130 and paying no more than 40 quid for it. Thats how it should be everywhere else. No throttling, no shaping, no download caps(i know this for a fact as ive downloaded several TBs worth of data over the last 1-2 months).

Since when has BT changed their policy to 'no traffic shaping'? I thought they did the whole bittorrent throttling during peak times etc...

!

That must be really recent. I've only recently joined and torrents were definitely being shaped a few weeks ago!

Torrents are shaped if you signed up before 1st of Feb 2013. Customers joining after this date (or ones that agreed to a new 12 month contract) aren't shaped.

The new packages were introduced in February. http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/119325-bt-infinity-now-totally-unlimited

I re-contracted and moved from BT Infinity Option 2 to Unlimited BT Infinity 2.

100/5 is a speed that's due to be upgraded free to 120/12 but is taking a lot longer than Virgin first estimated for rollout. I was due to be upgraded pre Olympics but didn't get the upgrade till Jan/Feb!
