BT infinity FTTC Double NAT issue

Right...

so ive had BT infinity since it was first released. my exchange just happened to be one of the first two that FTTC was released on. so i jumped at the chance to better my 1/1.5 mbps line!

as this was a while ago, i had an old BT Homehub 2:fibre. seemingly a normal homhub 2 with an RJ45 for the modem instead of a RJ11 for the phone line...

recently, i Bought a western digital my book live for NAS storage and remote access from elsewhere.

in my quest to speed up the data transfer to this, i rang BT and persuaded them to equip me with one of the new Homehub 3's.

now... my issue is... i cannot remotely access my WD MBL.

With some Digging, i have traced this down to being an issue with a 'Double NAT' because its connected to the Homehub, yet the huawei modem is supplying the IP and subnet and is not talking to the NAS clearly (correct me if im wrong)

so far... ive managed to hack the Huawei HG612 vdsl modem, and flashed the firmware, so i have access to the web gui. within this, i have turned off QOS which supposedly speeds things up, and ive turned on UPNP to see if that fixed anything.

Has anyone fixed this problem? or is there anyone that knows enough about networking to point me in the right direction to fix it? for all i know, i may be chasing my tail, but its worth a go!

thanks peeps!

Dave

Edit:

I know the Homehub is not the best, but im reluctant to replace it, unless i know a new router would clear the double NAT issue.
aside from this, they have run without a glitch really. and i have got much better speeds and signal with the new HH3.

if another brand of router would fix it, i would deffinately get one

Unlikely to be a NAT issue.

What WAN IP does the router show? The modem should be passing it through unmolested.

It sounds more like a port forwarding and/or firewall problem.

I have a MBL and am on Infinity option 2 with Homehub 3 and can access my MBL remotely.

All I did was port forward my deluge client port on it (8112) as I use deluge on it and can access it remotely.

I'd imagine if you port forward 8080 you will have full access to it?

I have tried Forwarding ports 80 and 443, which are what the MBL use apparently.

i have also now added 8080.

the MBL still says 'relay connection established'

WD2GO will connect to it, but its very slow

heres some screenshots. HH3, Huawei Modem and MBL

can you spot anything out of the ordinary?

as i said.. im not too hot on networks. the acronyms are a bit baffling to me :P jet engines i can do... networks scare me :P

so.. after a bit of affirmation that it was not a Double NAT issue, i had a right poke around inside the MBL and on google.

i had to set the network mode to static, and fill in all the details in there, then forward port a bit better than i had.

hopefully were cooking on gas!

this has bugged me for weeks now. my belief in it being this 'double NAT' made me more or less give up. it shows.. dont always trust google! lol

cheers guys! :)

Not sure why you would want to complicate the issue by modifying the Huawei settings in the first place.

when first looked into the issue i tried forwarding the ports, which i unknowingly got slightly wrong.

i also tried setting the static IP in the MBL, which didnt work at that time.

this is when i looked into it on google, and found a few forums with people having the same problem, quite a few with Bt infinity and the modem/router combo.

this is where the double NAT first came to suspicion.. as i said.. im not too hot with networking, so i just blindly followed...

as for the modem.. all i have done on there really, is flashed the firmware which gives me access to the Web GUI. it was at that point i came and asked for guidance! :p

seemingly, all i needed was a poke to concentrate on the ports and the IP and a bit more lol..

cheers guys! :)
