BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

hmm, that's the exact same reply they seem to be giving everyone now. All of us on this forum have had the response early-mid august recently and all the posts i've seen on the BT forum lately pasting their NGA email reply have said the same.

Finally got sick of BT's routing so switched to Sky. Get 7-8ms to bbc.co.uk instead of 20ms, much better.

I've hacked an image together by overlaying half BT and half Sky, so the times down the bottom don't make sense, but shows the change:

Still not quite as good as Be ADSL but it's early days and I can't really complain!

Ah, that's pretty awesome. Where are you located, care to provide a traceroute?

From the same premises (both lines currently in fastpath mode):

BT:

15 21 ms 21 ms 21 ms www-vip.telhc.bbc.co.uk [212.58.251.195]

Eclipse:

11 7 ms 6 ms 7 ms www-vip.cwwtf.bbc.co.uk [212.58.253.67]

Really need to get the BT line moved to another ISP once out of contract :|

Guys.

Estimated speed for me is 31d and 5u

I signed up today to bt infinity 2, in hope I may actually get better speeds than quoted currently.

Also I don't pay £30 connection charge compared to the infinity 1 which is more realistic. To my quoted speeds, so yes probably wasting a bit of money.

Also I am moving from sky and I got my line with them, on the order for infinity it asked if I wanted to use existing or new line, I chose existing, hope that was the right thing to do.

So my question is, how accurate are estimates to actual?

Also my cabinet i think is number 23 from my postcode ll183up, anyway I can see if that is correct and how far it actually is?

Thanks

Very happy with my Sky Fibre Pro install, engineer came out last week, jolly nice fellow I must say.

He was telling me about the local cabs delays (was supposed to be in my area 6 months ago) and he showed me my line stats on his PDA/line tester, and line is capable of the maximum 159 Mb/s down and 40 Mbps up :D

I never knew that VDSL roll out supported those speeds, but saw it with my own eyes!

OK, I'm getting impatient. I have an availability date of 30th June 2013 (which we know is a placeholder anyway), and it's now the 8th. Are they seriously going to make me wait until the end of the month?

Apparently VDSL2 can support a theoretical maximum of 250Mb/s. I assume that 250Mb/s would only be physically possible if it was implemented over fibre...which would be kind of pointless with GPON already deployed into the market... :p

Food's still bad in Yarnfield...

My max rate off an exfo tester is 180meg with 79999 sync rate (270m to vdsl cab) so im sure there is potential for VDSL2 to do that speed

The fibre speed will be 300meg

If the tester is essentially a VDSL2 modem itself, how does it test for a higher speed than the sync rate, considering it has to sync with the DSLAM? If the actual sync rate is determined by the profile, how does the tester around that?

Also, I'm ~320M from my cabinet (by road), so should I be looking at around the same sort of sync speeds?

Was told June before the checker changed to March 2014 then disappeared, now
Thank you for your enquiry.* You are connected to the Inverkeithing Exchange, cabinet 8.

Our systems indicate that work is ongoing with the deployment of your cabinet and, if all goes to plan, we are hopeful the cabinet will be ready for service towards the end of July 2013, barring any complications.

I suggest you continue to monitor our Web-Site which will keep you up to date with our latest deployment news for your exchange, the site also contains FAQs.

The Web-Site can be viewed using the following link:

I am sorry I cannot provide a definite date at this time.

Regards,

Julie

Won't hold my breath. This must be about my 7th date

What can I do to improve my line..

When I first signed up to BT infinity a few months ago, I was getting 55-60mbps down and latency was very low, now I get 40-45mbps and ping times have gone up a fair bit

Would it be that interleaving has been enabled?

Anyone from Wales tried to extract information from Superfast Cymru about when they're cab is going live?

Tried emailing them, to get a load of rubbish back.

The Superfast Cymru partnership agreement between the Welsh Government and BT ensures fairness and equity of roll-out of the network and that harder-to-reach areas are connected at the same time as those areas that are easier. To receive regular updates for your area, please visit the Superfast Cymru website at www.superfast-cymru.com and register your interest in the programme (available from the Where & When page) to receive regular updates. There is a postcode checker available on the website which will give the most up to date information on your postcode area.

The Postcode thing from as far as I can see is to show when the exchange is live.

looks like everything in wales is still in the planning stage.

that map is from the openreach website.

Use the following link to check your postcode

http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome

I check that site everyday and hope.

Exchange was upgraded in April and only a handful of cabs I know of have been upgraded to fibre.

Unfortunately BT won't tell me anything, they told me my Cab number and referred me to Superfast Cymru.
