BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Yeh same here about 12-14ms depending on the time.

(109.159.250.194) acc2-10GigE-0-2-0.mr.21cn-ipp.bt.net 7ms to there, which I am guessing is Manchester.

(109.159.250.141) core1-te0-3-5-0.ilford.ukcore.bt.net ping doubles once it hits here (dunno where this is).

My ping doubles at the exact same point as yours.

My trace to BBC if it helps... Interestingly, it always times out on hop 7, everytime.

Code:

You can turn the DHCP server off on the HH and share the net from your PC through the HUB, thats what I do.

But yeh I would ask for a new modem or both!

Could try LAN port 2 on the modem instead?? Could be a dodgy port (random idea).

Hmm, this computer is not always on.

Its taken 5 restarts to hopefully get it to stay connected.....

WTF is casuing these issues?

You can see that the BT Speed test thinks my ip profile is as it should be but my speeds had dropped down to 4mb/s....

Is this my equipement?

But as you can see these issue happen to me ever few weeks. How boring... :(

I'v spent the last 1.30hrs turning my BT equipement on and off.... yawn.

yes.

Only had Infinity for 4 weeks, been an absolutly nightmare so far.

Whats the point in speeds, if:

1. BFBC2 browser lists dont load.

2. Ridiculous speeds like 2Kb/s from Flash websites

3 Every few weeks I need to turn the equipment of and on 5 times to get it stable at advertised speeds.

Do you have to use the HH with BT?

No, I use PPPOE directly connected to the Openreach modem.

I have a cable coming from my switch into the homehub (which has DHCP off), this then shares the net over WiFi to iphones ect.

This PC is on 24/7 so isn't a problem for me.

But what could be making my speeds drop over night?

Also a temporary solution to those having issues with BFBC2 browser and Infinity, basically it seems yo have to let the server browser search for along time...... maybe 1-2 minuites, press the x button (after a long time) and it should return at least a few server, enough to get a game going.

Not great, but it will allow you to play at least.

Im going to request new equipment from BT, as my speeds should not be dropping at all should they?

Hmmm, after a quick google it seems you can ditch the Home Hub....

I've had dealings with the HH before, albeit it was a HH2 on a friends connection. wasn't impressed.

As a test maybe you could try this rather than the HH3? That router comes very highly recommended for FTTC over at TBB by the way. :)

The buffalo router looks good and is cheap enough to buy it as an experiment, but it shouldnt be neccessary. Im going to request from BT new equipment!

Try it and send it back, thats what i did, I got the WNDR3700 (which i am using now) and the Buffalo, Next model up from the one i linked though, the one with gig Ethernet. Then i picked one and sent the other back. :)

Internet went down last night from 1am till this morning.

DSL light remained on but when trying to connect the modem would give an unknown error, tried via PPPOE and using the HH.
