Afternoon chaps,

Currently running BT infinity 2 80 Mbps. Thinking of upgrading to BT infinity 3, 200 Mbps.

Simple question, it is worth the upgrade? And will I actually see these speeds?

Question is do you need 200mbit? If you do then go for it. If you just want it and can afford it, then yeah go for it.

Thats FTTP i believe? so yeah you should get 200mbits

Yeah FTTP.

My concern is, will the kit I have be able to take advantage of the speeds?

I have the BT home hub 5 but my laptop is connected via wifi N 5GHZ.

I have FTTP option 2 at 220Mbps I download from usenet at 27.2 megs per second. As for day-to-day surfing there isn't a massive benefit except for great number of users all happy. .torrent I have had running at 20megs. I would say the extra expense is worth it for me. Really depends on how much you download and from where.

What I would suggest is move away from the HH5, I have the asus ac68 and it works a treat hardly ever needs resetting vs. the HH5 which needed to be reset weekly to regain the wifi speed (even after changing all the channel information).

Funny you say that, I am having to reset the HH5 ALL THE TIME.

Will I see those speeds via WIFI though?

And yeah, consistently downloading torrents or streaming online.

Wifi N 5ghz expect 15 - 20megs. Depending on range from the router. I have the HH5 I sync at 78000 out of the possible 79999. I just got a tplink ac wifi dongle, connects to the hh5 at 520 - 720mbps at range of 6 - 8m through 2 new build walls.

Can't say i've had to reset my HH5 weekly to regain my wifi speed though.

Wish I knew if/when I could get Infinity 3. My house is now turning 3 years old in June, the estate is 3 - 5 years, I would have hoped BT had laid everything needed in advance!

Using speedtest.net I have seen speeds over Wi-Fi around 200 (downstairs) down to 180/190 upstairs in the bedroom. (we have a new build house so now brick internal walls). You will need to make sure you have a AC based wifi card (mine is the 7260 in a Yoga 2 Pro).

Range is about 2-3 meters. Hub is situated in a cupboard (partition walls).

I was tempted to go for infinity 4 but didn't want to pay that much.

Got the killer 1202 N 5GHZ.

Worth changing this out then? don't suppose its a difficult job.

I had just the single band not AC I unscrewed the lid of the laptop and remove the two aerials and swapped them over, I had no issues with drivers everything was picked up. Provides a much better speed and signal strength. The card was only about £20 I would say worth it totally.

Same. I only have the weekend phone calls. But I do have the BT TV, Infinity 2 etc. Total bill £32 (line rental prepaid). I would like slightly faster net too. I moved from virgin 150mbit (old house) to here. Was on 2mbit adsl for first 2 months then infinity 80mb as soon as it was available.

Thanks. Sorry for the thread hijack!

Back to first post, yes, get it. 20MBps+ download would be nice. Would be great in my house flooding the internet.

If you can get Option 3 then its worth the extra, I did investigate Option 4 but couldn't warrant the extra cost. I was coming from a 2.5mg ADSL service so didn't want to be to greedy. Which ever one you have one you get used to it, more speed is always desired.
