Hi Guys,
My BT infinity was installed on Monday and to be honest I haven't really noticed much of a difference. When browsing the web it can still take a while for a page to load and at times it loads quite slowly.

Speedtest.net will show only around 20MB down and 8MB up even though I was quoted 40/10. At other times speediest will show show not even 1MB Down and the same down but this only happens when I am downloading a torrent which is limited to only 100kbps anyway.

Not sure what is going on with my connection but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting. I know the line takes a while to be trained but I though I would be getting some sort of stable connection by now.

My connection is as follows:
Openreach Modem -> BT homehub -> Apple Airport Extreme -> HP Gigabit Switch -> iMac

I have a few hardwired devices on my network but only the iMac and Mac mini would use any real bandwidth. Wireless is handled by my Airport Extreme/Time Capsule and Express. Everything has static IP's and my Mac Mini server handles DHCP for the wireless devices.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated guys.

Airport Extreme is the latest generation. I want to remove the home hub but wanted to wait until the lined had been trained as the engineer said it could take 10 days.

The airport, home hub and open reach modem are downstairs and the switch is in my main home office handling a lot of wired connections. The airport and time capsule are set in roaming mode so my whole house has excellent wifi coverage.

I will change the cables round and let you know, just did another test there by loading a vimeo HD video that kept pausing to buffer with torrents downloading, when I paused the downloads the video stopped buffering and just played perfectly with no pauses.

On a side note a lot of wireless hardware hard caps at 20MBit/s (mostly 54MBit based stuff) but I've seen it with 100+MBit "N" Wireless setups too where no matter what the wireless adapter won't exceed 20MBit/s. If your using a wired conenction tho that wouldn't be the cause of it capping at 20MBit/s.

I was expecting something like this and this is why I choose to hardwire everything before I got Infinity and also why I chose to use gigabit connections.None of my wireless devices would need anything faster as they are only used for browsing.

These are my results after removing all connections apart from the airport extreme, going to try removing everything now.

I would try and get the line stats, but I think you have to load a firmware on the open reach modem, which is another thread, I got infinity last week, but mines been perfect.

This is everything removed except the Switch.

There is a difference here but it is still the same as what I was getting before. I will plug everything back in and see what happens.

I think my speed is quite good, because I was forced to go Infinity, as my area is cable, apart from my house, which Virgin declined to install. Due to being on a private road, cost to much for them to make it worthwhile.

What's your complete network topography?

Try Modem -> Home Hub -> iMac with everything else disconnected.
Try Modem -> Airport Extreme -> iMac with everything else disconnected.
Try the same with the Mini.

The Home Hub seems redundant, since you have the AE (and I'd say there's little point spending the money on the Draytek for the same reason).
With any luck the problem is down to the HH and AE not getting along.

What's your torrent client? Assume it's running on the Mini?

Transmission have been excellent for me. BT's traffic shaping of torrents seems to vary by region, seeing as I've never encountered it *touch wood* :)
