Hi guys,

Some urgent help needed. My sister has had constant issues with her homehub since going to Infinity so I want to put their old Netgear DG834 into replace the home hub.

I have their broadband username and password available and have input that into the Netgear, it's not picking up any internet though still.
Is there more setup needed to be done?

I have the white Openreach device bringing in the DSL cable. I then have a network cable cable going from the white box to the Netgear.

I'm not really a network/internet guru so not sure what to look for?

Cheers

The DG834GT won't take your connection from the BT supplied Infinity modem and distribute it as a router would. It simply does not have the correct functionality. Do a google search for use a dg834gt as a router only and you will see that people have tried and nobody has got it to work.

In your situation you need a router, access point or a modem that has a router only mode. The dg834gt has 2 modes, modem/bridge and modem/router - so it simply cannot do what you want it to

The DG834GT is a ADSL ADSL2+ modem, whereas infinity is a VDSL service. They are different technologies of transmitting data along a copper pair. You'd need to buy a modem router compatible with VDSL basically.

I think he's trying to replace the Homehub (router) and not the modem.
