BT Infinity setup

Hello everyone,

Basically I am thinking of changing to BT infinity, however there are some things I need to clarify first. My BT socket is downstairs and with my current broadband I have my router upstairs with a telephone cable running from the downstairs main socket to it.

How will this work with BT infinity, considering there is an external modem as well? At least I believe there is? All of my devices are upstairs and most are wired, so the router needs to be upstairs really. But is this possible?

There isn't now because the telephone cable has already been put in. Are there any other cables I'm going to need to route upstairs?

What is the Cat5e for? Would the modem be downstairs and the router upstairs? Or is it for something else?

How do they run the cable? Will they go through walls?

It's quite a distance from downstairs!
