infornt of my PC
Hi
I have infinity2 from BT.

When I had ADSL and just the home hub 3, all the devices worked and they all showed up in the admin console.

Since having BT install the new modem, the hh3 had done some strange things. Wireless devices drop off and come back and I have hard wired an ethernet printer to one of the ports. Not all wireless devices and not all the time. It seems to be some devices that are problematic.

My PC is connected to the gb port
I have a printer and xbox also connected by ethernet

When I go in to the admin console, and look at home network, I can see the printer there but it says disconnected. Yet it prints (in most apps).

I have assigned a static IP address to the printer as sometimes dhcp addresses change and its a pain when I need to print and then have to mess about changing ip addresses.

The other thing that annoys me is the HH3 is a slick looking box and the modem looks 20 years old. Plus I need 2 power points.

Is there one combined hub/router that can free me a socket on the power bar?

Secondly, I have read about these 2.4ghz wireless speeds. What do I need to do to get this speed?

Thirdly, my hh3 has just one gb port. Can I just plug a small gb switch in to the port on the hh3 to give me more gb ports? (assuming I can find a free plug).

Lastly, would it be worth getting a wireless print server adapter thing and putting the printer out of site? Would it work with BT's hub?

Thanks for your help

I've been doing a little reading up on hardware too as I've just had Infinity installed (I'm not with BT, engineer left a HH3 by mistake, i was going to use an old cable modem until i was sorted but hey, free HH3, though I had to downgrade the firmware and telnet a hack to enable non-BT login credentials).

Been reading good things about this Asus RT N56U.

Re switch: Can't see why not

Re: Print server ... well I've been trying (unsuccessfully as yet, not tried much though) to get my DGN2200 to work as a repeater so I can plug my Android smart box and Sky box into.

The all-in-one VDSL options are limited and expensive. You're better off sticking with the supplied modem and just buying a more capable router (such as the N56U suggested above).

That's the frequency the wireless works at, not the network speed.

Yes.
