BT Internet Fair Usage Policy

We went over 20 gigs on our BT account, we just got told next time it happens they will charge £1 per gig.

When they started introducing a 30 gig cap (to what used to be their unlimited service) I recieved a letter saying that I was consistantly going over 100 gb of usage a month.

Never got charged but promptly change service. That was about 2 years ago.

OP do yourself a favour and get a descent provider.

Haha, Ive just recieved an email stating that I've gone over my limit for last month by 59gb. Its strange because i havent done anything out of the norm. 109gb is a lot for one month.

its not really a lot for a month, i must use about 1 terrabyte a month lol
only 2 pcs and xbox 360 connected on cable Telewest.

Well 2 laptops and my PC run but the laptops useage is negligible. I wonder if they've started to use upload as well?

its a common misconception, people have always assumed its a download limit when infact its a usage limit which therefor includes uploads as well as downloads

How can BT do this?

http://www.bt.com/broadband/

Take a good look at option 3. Which my guess is what most people have.

Its not unlimited though its subject to a fair usage policy which basically means, "use more than we think is acceptable and we will either charge you for it or terminate the service." And id say most people are not on option 3. Id say they have more option 1 customers.

As of lastnigth @10pm I am now with SKY.

Phoned BT today to ask them to make sure they don't bill me next month and sort out my FUP bill and the told me I am still with BT and not with sky at all and as such they are charging me for next month.

Now I am connected to Sky I've checked but BT wont drop the charge.

TBH I have stopped all there debits and we will see where this goes.

Some months ago, a good mate of mine, went to PIPEX from BT

Now, after doing this, BT dropped his line and disconnected him... PIPEX had not yet connected him. - This was for his Phone and Broadband.

Now, this left him without a Phoneline at all???

He tried to contact PIPEX who eventually told him that they would not connect him as there was a problem in his area ( Bull because others have it just fine ) and they will no longer give him a service.

He has tried to go back to BT but they are telling him, that he has to pay a re-connection fee before they will do this.

Now, in the arguement over who's fault it is that he has been disconnected, both PIPEX ( told BT to disable him too early ) or BT ( Disconnected him before PIPEX took over ) are saying its not their problem.

He is now without a phoneline completely and only has his Mobile and luckily his heighbour has let him access his router via wireless.

I have told him to go to CAB and that may be on the cards, but if this is the kind of service to expect, then it really does make you wonder if its worth bothering with at all sometimes?
