BT Internet slow speed

I have BT Infinity, telephone line to the door, fibre from the exchange connection and a BT Home Hub 5.

I just noticed my connection speed has dropped to about 2Mb/sec after a Speedtest.net test.

I think it has been slowing down a for a while, i put it down to malware but even on a clean machine it is the same.

I realise this could be down to many things.

I have tried a clean pc connected via a lan cable into the Home Hub 5.

Can anyone help with a few question i have:

1. How can you get a line test done ?

2. Are other routers better than HH5 ?

3. Is there any other testing i could do from my end ?

Thanks for any help

Do a speed test with your ADSL filter plugged straight into the test port on your Master Socket.

To get access to it remove the bottom front plate and plug your filter into that socket.

If you get significantly higher speeds with your modem plugged directly into this port then the problem is with the telephone wiring in your house and you can do something about it - otherwise it's with the line / ISP provider.
