Hi all,

Just had BT Broadband installed and a little confused !

Homehub is stating the following...

ADSL line status
Connection information
Line state Connected
Connection time 0 days, 0:06:39
Downstream 11,151 Kbps
Upstream 1,059 Kbps

ADSL settings
VPI/VCI 0/38
Type PPPoA
Modulation ITU-T G.992.5
Latency type Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up) 6.3 dB / 6.2 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 35.0 dB / 18.3 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 0.0 dBm / 12.8 dBm

However, Speedtest is saying this

I'm guessing that its just trying to sort itself out and will meet somewhere int he middle at some point? Do those noise margins and line attenuation figures look ok?

BT predicted 8-10MB, so if I can get close to 5-6 I'd be chuffed :)

No BT Master socket in the flat, so this is as good as it gets for location.

Try these to see what speed you get from bt's internal network, speedtest.net isn't a reliable test.

http://speedtester.bt.com/
http://www.btopenworld.com/speedtest

Then try some external sites.

If I recall your connection speed will fluctuate for the first week whilst the best speed/reliability ratio is found. Also it's possible although you connect at a fast speed the isp is overloaded and cannot cope with the amount of clients.

For approx. the first 10 days of connection BTs equipment will be working out the best/stable connection it can achieve with your home, so it's likely to vary for that period until it works itself out.

Once that's done, go to http://speedtester.bt.com/ and do a speed test and see what your IP profile has been set to - this determines the speed you're actually allowed to download at :) Be aware the BT speedtester only allows you to test once every 3 hours, although it logs the test results in the event you need to contact their support about an issue.

You're also not going to get anywhere near the max speed during peak time (9am 6pm at a guess), so do some tests in the evening :)

I thought I should update everyone 24 hours on

Definately happy with that for a Saturday Night in Central London :)

Looking good - you may see 1-2 more bumps on the IP Profile yet possibly... til you use more than "80" (40-50) Gig in a month and get throttled back to 1999.
