So I am with Virgin for my landline, calls and broadband. I pay £49 a month for 60MB broadband.

I use on average a month of about 40GB - 50GB of downloads and it is unlimited with Virgin. BT have just offered me their up to 76MB download speed package and line rental for £42 a month which is the Unlimited BT Infinity 2 package.

I'd save about £6 a month, get the latest BT homehub. No traffic management policy with BT and access to BT Sport online. The first 3 months would also be only £20.

Basically for the sake of saving £6 a month is it really worth the change? How do BT and Virgins broadband compare?

VM is raping you.

I was paying £30 for 120MB and phone M and there are people with better deals than this.

are you still in contract?

Been with VM about 10 years or more.

I see them offering my package to new customers for £36.50 after 6 months of £12. WTF!!?

I know I could probably get a discount for a while if I threatened to leave but it's an effort. I hate dealing with sales people.

ok then, phone them up saying that you think you're paying too much and that you're thinking of moving to BT. repeat until you get a deal you're happy with. will probably be about 3rd-4th person you'd speak to.

check VM thread to see about how much are other people paying for same services.

+1

With broadband it's always good to phone up saying you are thinking of moving because you found a cheaper service with similar speeds, limits etc elsewhere. VM may offer to reduce your monthly cost if you are persistent :)

No, been with them well over 10 years and have had nothing new added on which extends my contract.

There's your problem. You need to phone and threaten to leave every time your contract is up, and be prepared to go through with it if necessary. They'll usually offer a discount in line with their new customer deals of their competitor's pricing to get you to commit to another 12 months.

Assuming you have the same approach to your car insurance, home insurance, utility bills etc you're probably many thousands of pounds worse off than you need to have been over the last 10 years.

As others have said, phone to say you got a better offer from BT and as you feel your contract isn't good value you'd like to change... they'll probably beat the offer.

DO remember though, if you switch to BT you now have that awkward conversation when you sign up, the "yes sir, I'd like to be able to watch some porn" conversation :p

Hmm, if someone went on BT's forums and posted a bunch of porn images in loads of different threads under different names, making it hard to find and remove them all quickly, would BT's port filter start blocking BT? I think I have a new plan.......
