Hi

Am still having problems with our phone and broadband service so just wanted to check my understanding of 'bt landline'. Does this refer only to a landline that BT retail or an ISP that is provisioning a landline from BT Wholesale or does it also include landlines that are provided where the ISP is using LLU equipment in BT's exchange?

Can some of you test your landline in the following link please if you are a non BT retail customer and see if you get a result different from the one that I get below. Can you indicate your ISP and whether the results you get recognise your line to be a BT line. If you know your ISP is an LLU one for your exchange using the SamKnows link below, can you also indicate that too please.

This is what my landline reports using the DSL checker below. Whilst my ISP isn't talktalk I think my ISP sources services wholesale from talktalk.

"There is no data available for this number. This could be either because it is not a BT line or it is a new BT number that has just been provided. Most new numbers will appear on the checker 24 hours after BT has installed the line."

Much appreciate anyone who can help clarify this so I can tackle my ISP later.

I would say it depends in what context "bt landline" is used as some people think all of them are bt due to Openreach owning the network which is a group part of BT.

A bt landline Is a telephony service provided to you by BT which guarantees you voice.

Perhaps more info regards your ISP and problem your having may help, as you could could be on different equipment in the exchange etc.

Very often a broadband provider will describe the availability of their service as being available if you have a BT landline. Since this is not specifically meaning BT retail since some ISP's could provision a BT line through BT wholesale, I would understand such a description to refer to a BT Openreach line rather than being a BT retail customer. The problem we have is our number isn't identified as a BT landline. Regardless of who the retail provider of the line is, with the exception of Virgin, the copper between our home and the exchange is part of BT Openreach so for the purpose of identifying what broadband is available to a property, this would all have to travel down the same copper from the exchange to the property so surely anyone except Virgin I think should surely be identified as having a BT landline although I'm referring to it as a BT Openreach line rather than a BT Retail land line. The fact that a property is provisioned with a connection to the exchange should be what determines whether someone can receive broadband.
