BT Line - beeping dial tone

I'm sure I know what this means, but I've forgotten, so a little help would be good

What's it mean when the dial tone on your BT phone beeps about once every second? I seem to remember it's something like there's a message waiting somewhere, but where, how do I get it, why does that service exist?

Don't have a BT line, but maybe it's voicemail on 1571?

Could be call divert or a message. I know it screws up olde worlde dialup modems though.

It is indeed this. Dial 1571 and it will play your voicemail back to you.

Yep its to tell you that you have a new message on the 1571 answering service

You can get it switched off either on the BT website or by phoning them.
