I cancelled my BT Line on the 18th of May because I am moving out this week. Interestingly my ADSL is still working despite the fact that the phone has been cut off. How long is it likely to be before I get kicked off the internet too? I have paid for broadband until the end of the month.

That isn't the point.... You can't have ADSL without a BT line. Usually when a BT customer cancels the phone line the ADSL is cut off immediately (and the ISP was until last week charged a disconnection fee).

Not quite. You can't have ADSL without a copper pair connected to a DSLAM (and all the bits in between). You've only had the voice service cut off.

There's nothing technically stopping ADSL working with no voice service (which is essentially what the line rental is for).

I have seen numerous occasions where the ADSL or phone line has been cancelled and carried working normally for a month after the cancellation.

As an example, I work for an IT support company. One of our new clients had their internet go down 2 months after we took them on and when we called their ISP we were told they cancelled their internet when we took them on 2 months ago.

Turns out the accounts department thought that their new IT support contract covered their internet as well so cancelled their old line

My complete guess is BT have some sort of quick control over your ability to make calls, i.e. if you don't pay your bill they can instantly stop you from making calls from the confort of BT HQ.
The ADSL side of things has to be disconnected from the exchange/greenbox thingy, so obviously not so quick.

My reasoning being BT have to come to your town/village to hook you up with ADSL, but if you pay of your debt on the mobile phone, they turn your calling functions back on in seconds... *cough....*
