hiya peeps. I am looking at moving my master socket, does anyone happen to know how much bt charge to do this? and is it a fixed rate no matter where you want it?

thanks;)

A lot! If you know a BT engineer this can help loads ;) The call out charges BT charge are criminal to say the least!

well, i have to move a little bit, say like 2 inches up as the new skirting will not fit where the master socket is atm. My only issue is that i know that one of the wires in the master socket is very short and only just reaches as it is and so i am not sure if it will stretch up 2 inches. If it's a case of getting a BT guy out then i might aswell move it to the other side of the wall and make things tidyer all round......and breath:p

Do it yourself, I did and even rewired the wiring that comes into the house. Its my property and unless It ever needs replacing by bt from the lamp post in then i'll never call them in.
I moved it 8 feet along the wall as it was coming into a closet which I was in the middle of converting to a bathroom. At the end of the day its a bracket, adsl faceplate and two wires.

It's also illegal to touch it yourself.

Ouch! Looks like I will be using the wiring diagram I found on net then and just moving it up a couple of inches then.

I thought it was £125, but if xb8browney paid £140 then that's probably right.

Reason I said that is because we wanted a socket put in one of the bedrooms and they said it would cost £140 so we got someone out of the local paper I'd assume it would be a little less or a little more to move a socket.

Also my dad has BT out to his shop and they charged him £140 just as a call out charge ... They put the fee on hold for a week when he phoned up. He has had his BT account for 40 years and they wouldn't wave it so he left in a flash...
