ive heard people mention using rj45 cables to connect modem to adsl filter.?

i thought only rj11 cables can be used

I think what you mean is people use cat5/5e/6 cable (RJ45 cable) to make extensions from the master socket.

This means you get next to no loss in signal from the master to any extension.

The BT faceplate filter has an 8P8C socket which accepts a 6 contact plug if required, only connecting the centre 6 pins.

My master socket has the original ADSL1.1 filtered faceplate as fitted by the BT engineer way back in late 1998 or so... it has the normal telephone socket on one side and an RJ45 connection on the other - which you can also connect a RJ11 into as teh center pins are the same.

Originally we had a length of CAT5 from that to a second socket that the ADSL modem connected into but now we have a router plugged in directly.
