a mate is with Telewest and having major problem with his blueyonder connection, he decided to go for Be*

if he switch to Be, he must give 30 days notice to telewest so it will take 30 days before switch over to BT, which takes too long. there is BT phone line in his house and used it years ago. he wouldnt mind if he lose his old number. but looking at BT website, nowhere i could find if he could 'RTD' (return to donor) with new number for FREE.

anybody know if its free or how much ?

thanks

Yes he can have the line connected for free and a new number. If the lines not been used for ages then he would need an engineer out to do the re-conenction and depending on the demand in his area this may take a couple of weeks before one can come out.

Return to Donor refers to bringing the number back to the source. If you request a new number the old number does not return to donor and infact stays with the cable company.

Trust me it go's back on the disconection date, at least 25% of the major complaints i used to deal with involved number ports going back following a change of date for disconection, it would change on the system but it would still go off the switch and RTD.

To answer the OP's question yes you can have a new number at no *additional* charge. BT may still charge you for an install depending on if they need to do anyhitng other than just connect you back up. If he wants to keep the number he can though 30 days notice and a port out are not mutually exclusive.
