Hi guys,

My current setup is FTTC

BT-openreach modem connected to the Asus - AC68u via Wan

Is there anyway I could check my sync speed? Maybe someone connecting to the modem? As the Asus doesn't give me the option for Sync speed.

cheers

You'll need to unlock the BTOpenreach modem using the manufacturer stock firmware

Which modem have you got is it the Huwaei HG612?

Once you've done that you just access the modem's web interface and the sync speed can be found under the WAN status page

Not sure on model, how would I check ? And update the firmware?

Cheers for the reply

If it's a HG612 it'll be on the label (on the back) IIRC it's Echolife HG612

I beleive BT only used two different types of VDSL modem (A Huawei HG612 & a ECI Telecom one)

The more recent modems are a bit of a hassle to unlock (they've taken extra steps in the software) and require hardware modification if its the same model as mine :|

Really don't see the point of going to those lengths all it does it make more hassle for them and the customer.

ECI Modem = don't bother trying to unlock, a lot of hassle
HG612 Modem = very easy to unlock - very good stability

Both unlocked will give you ability to grab your line stats etc and tweak a bit of QOS etc

Mines the ECI rev B :| LAN2 actually has nothing behind it at all - its not even a dual block like the images and the UART pins have been covered in glue - one of the recent updates apparently also doubles up on making it harder on the software side... I really don't see the point. Need to get around to sourcing a Vigor or something at some point.
