Am i right in thinking that bt charge £150 to reconnect a telephone line, regardless of the reason and even if it just means enabling the switch?

i think if it hasnt been connected for a few years its £125?

However, if it was connected up until last week for example, then you moved in this week, to connect it SHOULD be free i think

:(...
It's in a virgin area so even if there is a bt cable there it won't of been connected for years.

Really want sky as it's so much cheaper. But 125 to reconnect is off putting to say the least.

No virgin is better and faster but way more expensive than a sky package, even when you take into account the bt phone line.

I'm getting virgin on monday & i can't wait, BT are ***p i use to get 4.5 MB now i get 1.5 MB utter ***p plus i was paying £ 36.
with virgin i get over 40 tv channels a phone line plus 10 MB all for £ 27 a saving of £ 9.

Sky were giving people a £125 credit onto their sky account if they were signing up to sky.
Have you tried asking if they will do this?

If their is a wire connected to the property it was £9.99 for reconnection and if their is not a wire BT were doing an offer that they would connect for £30 but you had to agree to an 18 month contract for the phone line.

( it took me 35 minutes to get through to someone at bt that could offer the offer though)

My sister recentley moved house and they tried charging her £125 to re-connect the line (that had a dial tone). She said OK but was unhappy and mumbled something about complaining to OFTEL. The operator went off the line to speak to somebody and came back to say they would waive the charge.
I did something similar when they were threatenening to hold me to a 12 month contract because I changed the name on an account. The magic word seemed to change their stance on that as well.

Whoever you spoke to was clearly an idiot - Oftel ceased to exist 5 years ago.

The £30 installation "offer" stops at the end of the month.

it is £125 to reconnect the line. but you dont have to pay it all at once. i paid £20 extra per month for 6 months on my line rental and paid the installation that way. or you can pay £10 over 12 months ( 15 the first month )

Maybe it was just the threat of a complaint then. I thought they connected my sister for nothing in the end but there may have been a small charge. This was about 6 months ago.

If you still have a BT master socket with wiring intact, then it'll be free to reconnect. Otherwise take them up on the £30 offer if you're ordering before the end of this month.

Not true. The line must still be connected in the exchange and have a dial tone to be free. If you have a line and sockets but no dial tone then its a charge.

The current place I'm in, had a dialtone, and upon placing my order with BT was connected within a few days.

The last place I was in (This was 8 months ago), there was no dial tone, I placed my order with BT, it took two weeks for the phone line to come up, however, there was no charge for reconnecting.

You were clearly getting stoked by BT on some ancient contract... unlucky.
