hello folks,

does anyone know anything about phone wiring.

im in the process of renovating my house that ive just bought. it an old 1900's property and its full of crazy.

ive just ordered fibre broadband and i was suprised to find that no engineer needs to visit my property.

ive got no master socket (in the regular sense where you can take off the bottom half of the faceplate) but in the hallway i have what resembles an extension faceplate with wires running to 2 things which look like this :-

Don't hotlink images - Rilot

can anyone explain these?

can i get a length (ooh err) of CAT5e connect them up to those jobby wotzits and move my (extension looking box) to somewhere more convenient?

or do i need different cable.

my property has a real life telephone pole and a cable running to the property.

cheers folks. i actually have 2 of these boxes.

I think i will replace it and everything from that point also (moving it to a more convenient location) im assuming i can use a cat5e cable instead? or it is some kind of special wire?

on a similar note, wheres the cheapest place to get the items from?

a junction box
100m cat5e solid core cable
nte5 box
rj45 faceplates

Replace that box with a BT80a junction box, then you can downsize to CW1308 cable from the outside telephone cable, easier to run and discrete - BT use CW1308 cable, its high quality and solid core. I'm going to start testing my line with a oem VDSL faceplate as I doubt I'd benefit from one with a rein filter (such as openreach mk2, 3 or NTE-2005).
