I recently upgraded to BT Broadband ultimate and have received the new home hub, downloads seem to be faster, but i keep loosing connections randomly and especially when in games. Ive tried to check if they are doing maintence in my area but i cant find out how to check this... if any one has a link that would be great i cannot find one.

Also how do i change my nat setting and things like that with the home hub i cant find these sorts of settings i had on my old router with port options etc.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Iv just had the engineer out due to random drop outs.

God knows if he has fixed it, im going to buy a new dongle as well to see if that helps.

0800 1114567 is the number for them to run a few tests and ask about problems.

Just rang BT and they have been very helpfull and are doing some line tests, hopefully it works.

But for anyone else with any issues then give this number a call.

Thanks DiamondMark.

Source engine games post HL2 and battlefield dont like the homehub. At all.
The router cant cope with the huge ammount of simul' connections being used to populate the server browser, amongst other things and thus fails to workey workey.

Use a new router is my advice.

Thanks for the advice but it's not the router and actually the new 2.1 routers do seem to be extremely good for games.

So my problem is still there after several router changes and even a visit froma technitian. We found a small cable break but the copper wasnt actually broken but we beleived that it may have be shorting out casing their to be these fluctuations in connectivity. But after a cable replacemt the issue is still there. unfortunatly the technitian could not find the fault as it may be external to my property (*sigh*) So clearly the problem is a little more serious than i fist thought. Even after several router changes and line tests they still cannot find the problem. Even from the main socket in my house.

So i will be expecting a call from the technitian team that may have to check the line to my nearest exchange and hopefully this will sort the problem!

Ill update the status of my problem so that any one else with any similar symptoms can follow the steps that i took to finally get this beast of a problem fixed.

Hmm. Sorry. All HH's are terrible for gaming.
When you tried several routers .. please tell me they weren't all HH's? otherwise im going to stick with my original prediction.

Is this on the PC Btw? or a console?
I assumed PC .. HH's seem to work okay for console gaming because of the way they dont spam populate a server browser like PC games do.

Basically, HH's have a very low simul' connections threshold (All versions) and certain PC Games breach this number when populating their server lists (Which for some odd reason, source engine games even do in the background whilst playing on a server although the results are hidden untill you refresh the list). The result is the HH kills the connection because it fears the worst.

Nope Pc gaming and yes they were different routers, one HH 2.1, one BT voyager 220v voice router, one linkeys and one billion all very new and up-to-date routers and all have had the same issue and the HH realy does seem to be great for pc gaming as far as ive had it atleast. very good user interface and good firmware as far as i can tell. I have about 5 Active PC's running off the new HH and it is very new. Other than the issue with the line its been faultless.
