Hi guys,

I am currently with British Telecom, and I have broadband, BT vision and my home phone with them! However I was payed off from my job a couple of months ago and things are not going good for getting another job!

ok so before I have been paying monthly for my BTvision/home phone, which was coming in at about 70.00 per month and my broadband is about £100 every three months!

Recently I received a letter saying I would have to pay them £115 per month and my broadband is £120 for the three month period! I just cant afford this at the moment so I want to get rid off it all and try and get broadband through a different ISP!

Can I do this or will BT disconnect the line? I want to cancel my contract and pay the remaining balance in installments, and then just go with another ISP?

Thanks for any help, havent contacted BT yet!

I'm fairly sure they will want the whole fee upfront if you're breaking the contract with them.

Maybe just negotiate with them to cancel certain services, such as Vision and drop your call package to a lower grade service and so on.

No sense in getting rid of the BT line unless there is another option either such as an LLU service from Sky (even then you need an active BT line to order it).

i suppose it depends how long youve been with them, my advice is to go with sky for everything £38.50 a month gets you quite a lot with them
and to be paying £115 a month for phone is bad, check your on a decent calling plan if you cant leave them

Yeah I will call them tommorow and try and drop the services and see what they say!

If I went with sky wouldnt BT just disconect the phone line meaning I wouldnt be able to get sky too! Unless I paid the bt bill upfront, only been with them about 9 months!

I only really care about my internet!

thanks

If you've only been with them for 9 months then you are either stuck with them for another 3, 9 or 15 months depending on the contract... to get out now would mean paying the rest off in one go :S

If you keep the line with BT and change ISP you should be able to migrate without the cancellation/reconnection fees - if your moving the line too you will probably be charged a cancellation fee.

Your bills seems high tho... broadband + telephone + line rental + vision on the top end package shouldn't be costing more than just over £50 a month for the lot unless your using a lot of extras on vision and spending a huge amount of time on the phone.

No I dont spend a lot of time on the phone and my broadband is high because I go above my download limit!

The broadband and phone are on seperate accounts but I have no idea why last month my payment plan for phone vision etc was £67.00 and now its at £115.00.
p.s So say I switched ISP tommorow and BT wanted the cash up front for my bills would that mean my new ISP would cut my service if i just decided to pay the balance up?

Thanks for gettin back as I am getting confused, I just cant afford the bills but dont want to leave myself without been able to get internet anywhere!

yeah somethings not right, your broadband works out to be £40 a month, i would definatly stop using the phone aswell to reduce your bills, if your a 12 month contract ring them and explain you need the lowest package available as you cant afford there high costs, they may help you rather than you leaving there service all together

If your regularly going over the bandwidth limit BT should let you upgrade to the unlimited broadband product for free - there are no charges for extra useage on the "unlimited" package.

Something seems wrong with your billing to me - you seem to be paying well over the odds for just one part let alone the combined total... you shouldn't be paying out more than £50-55 tops for the lot unless your spending HOURS on the phone and using loads of extras on vision.

Yeah thanks for the help looks like I just need to call them, I will post back soon!

I am hoping the fact my broadband is on a seperate account number things will go well for me! Thanks
