BT - Requesting an additional line for broadband

Hey.

I bought a house back in March which unfortunately is unable to get either BT fibre or Virgin Media 'fibre' broadband, which sucks, as my previous property, which is only a few streets away could.

Turns out this is due to my new property having an 'Exchange Only' line.

So I currently have bog standard ADSL 16Mb broadband from Sky.

I was debating whether to have BT install and additional line and take out another ADSL contract on that line, however I was wondering whether BT would just 'split' my current line and therefore defeat the purpose of having the new line installed.

Had a quick Google but couldn't find anything obvious, so be grateful to see if anyone knows anything about this or can propose an alternative that I may have missed?

You mean ADSL ;).

It's possible, but as you said they'll "split" your line. However, this will not affect your speeds, as the line that usually goes into your house has 3 pairs, and only 1 pair is actually used for your phone/broadband. My cousin when he was briefly staying with me for a few months was also a BT engineer so he had a discount broadband, and had it coming down the same line as mine. Both were able to sync at max speed no problem.

As for the router, you can get one that can join both lines, although I have no idea which one is a decent one to go for and may be very expensive.

Thanks. I guess my best bet is confirming the above with BT and finding out costs!
