I've had FTTP up and running now for a month and half, all in all it's been great from a speed perspective but the kit (SH2 and 2 discs) is quickly becoming the weakest link.

I'm having hell of my wife who works from home this morning because I keep taking down the line, saturating the upstream uploading a single 5GB file to Azure at 60-70mb.

Every other connection in the house disconnects as a result of this one single file transfer.

Has anyone else seen similar?

Disconnect?

How is the machine with the upload connected? If you're using wireless you could be saturating your internal wireless network.

You could also be saturating the upstream WAN bandwidth to a point where the connection will grind to a halt for everyone else (you'd expect so sort of QOS to be running to avoid that).

Upload QoS has always sucked on BT Hubs in my experience.

The simple solution in this case would be NetLimiter to restrict your outbound bandwidth from your PC.

Yeah I was suspecting as much, infuriating given how they're selling the service now.

It’s not an issue with how they are selling the service, they seem to have given you exactly what you have paid for, it’s how you are choosing to use it and the impact your choice is having on the other user. You could have course limit the upload to a reasonable % of the upload capacity or deploy a new router to do it for you, but without either of those in place, you are the problem.

It was a poor choice of words on my part in fairness as far as the service goes. I wouldn't expect a single upload to be allowed nuke all connections across a household in 2021 with ISP provided kit, nor is it something I've experienced with kit from other ISPs or that which I've installed myself, that's what I'm taking exception to.
