Planning to move to BT FTTP - BT confirmed FTTP overhang cable availability.

Currently using Virgin Media Broadband with the Modem mode feeds into Asus RT-AC86U, used as Router..

I understand BT Smart Hub 2 will not go into Modem only mode. If I were to switch off DHCP, Wi-Fi and probably Firewall in BT hub, can I connect the Asus RT86U to it to act as a router? If so, does the BT Hub ethernet port cable connect to Asus WAN port?

If you're going FTTP then you can just plug straight into the Openreach ONT with your existing router and dial the PPPoE connection, and leave the BT hub in the box.

Unless you use your phone line, BT are in the process of switching to digital Voice so you need the router. Luckily I don't use the voice line.

It's a good point, I assume people posting here don't want or need a landline, but it's something to be aware of
