Ok, here is the story, I've been with BT for years and I've never had any major issues with there service, but as of 2 weeks ago every day between 6:30PM and 10:30PM my internet slows to a crawl and im talking Dial up crawl here.
So is this BT Throttling my connection, if so i will not be a happy chap considering i pay for an unlimited connection.

May have just had a problem on your line.....

how would that make my connection slow to a crawl at 6:30PM untill 10:30PM, everyday for the last 2 weeks tho?

And at 6:30PM on the dot this evening as expected it slowed right down.

A download i have going one min was doing 200k+ then the next min i am lucky to get 20k.

Sorry I mis-read. Didn't see it was at a specific time period. :o

I'd get on the ol' blower and ask them what's happening. :)

I have had this problem before loaaaaaads of times. Had the engineer around our house like 4 times. Eventually found the problem was a shared phone line between 2 PCs with seperate Routers...

There are loads of ex BT BB users left as they were traffic shapping, if you ring up & believe what they say like clear out the cache then so be it but sometime they just remove the cap saying you have sorted the issue. They also may send an engineer out but beware as the fault will always apper to be the exchange when they leave.

1 Always check your filters
2 check for any virus/spyware
3 reset the router/try another router as the hub is rubbish
4 If on wireless try a cable instead
5 remove all extensions
6 if the problem persists use the master socket
7 if the last step fails get to the test socket behind the master socket & then ring BT telling them you have done all the above & want a mac code.

I had 5 months fighting with BT & them saying my internet was fine when it clearly wasnt & when the engineer did come he wrecked my line anyway used to get 7mb it went to 4mb unstable & even a lift & shift never sorted it. Thing is if I knew it was traffic management like they were denying I couldve had a stable line transfered over to an enternet supplier. :(

I am sure BT is throttling my line and has been for quite a while now. It's pretty much pointless trying to download anything between 4:30PM and 10:30PM. If I do try to download something then my browsing is like I'm on dial up.

Between these hours I'm lucky to get 20kbs on a torrent and 70kbs from a site like Filefront.

Between the hours of 2:30AM and 8:00AM I get about 480kbs on torrents and other files. After that time it slows down to about 280kbs until 4:30PM.

Is there anything I can do other than changing supplier?

i get this quite a lot to with bt, im on a £30.00 per month up to 8mb package with unlimited monthly allowance, always seems to happen after 6.00 to 10.00. checked for all the usual things like viruses, spyware and i dont use p2p or torrent programs very often. must be a common thing with bt as a lot of my friends both xbox 360 and pc users have noticed the same thing.

The only thing you can do is get a better supplier, you may want one with a lower contention ratio thats guaranteed not to traffic shape.
