morning all.

well, new house time is approaching fast, and I just cant be without the webbinet (can any of us) for a prolonged amount of time.

I am humming and harring about different TV stuff, and internet.

so. I think I have already made a decision on ADSL.

so...if I was to get ADSL.....what are peoples thoughts on BT total broadband with VOIP phone etc.

I will utimately need a phone line and connection, so why not all rolled in.

I still need to check if my new area will support more than 1meg though (1meg, we arent in 1999 any more!)

failing all this I will be looking into a virgin package.

and I read horror stories on both options. BT and virgin.

is the best way (but most expensive by about 20-30quid more a month) to get a BT line. an ADSL provider, and sky? :)

Hi there,

Go to this website ( http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php ) and tell us which services you can get at your new address - ADSL, LLU or Cable, also, which speed ADSL do BT think they can deliver to the new address?

How much do you download per month, roughly?

I would personally not recommend BT broadband at all. I have been with them for many years and recently it has been a nightmare, so much so that I actually got my MAC code a few days ago and I am leaving them this week.
The technical support team don't know what they are talking about most of the time, they have started capping many users to ridiculously slow speeds during peak times and weekeneds.
Also, I believe BT are now doing 18 month contracts with their new option 3 + VOIP phone, which is absolutely ridiculous, another way to trap more customers into their poor service.
There are much better and cheaper ISP's out there.
I do have a BT phone line, ADSL connection (I can't get anything else here), and Sky TV - it is quite expensie but it's been perfect for my family.

excellent reply thanks for the info.
this is what I get from that site.
it is a bit strange. it says I can get 2meg, but the code refers to not getting any service :)

You are connected to the Farnborough telephone exchange.

ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services

According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 2Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.

Standard ADSL RAG results:
[BT ADSL Code: AEGEGEZ] You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
[BT ADSL Code: AEGEGEZ] You cannot receive 1Mbps ADSL
[BT ADSL Code: AEGEGEZ] You cannot receive 512Kbps ADSL
[BT ADSL Code: AEGEGEZ] You cannot receive 256Kbps ADSL,
despite a visit from a BT engineer

You are approximately 2.73km from the exchange (straight line distance).

Your BT ADSL code is: AEGEGEZ

ultimately my fears might be right. BT is not the best. and I can do better payine more for seperate services.

I do have a USB freeview which apparently will work in the area I am moving to (some postcodes do and dont work within a couple of miles)
so at least I wont be too stuck with bbc thru channel 5....if it actually works.

so...ADSL24 it is then. shame I need to pay 10.50 a month for a std BT line.

they wont give you the £5 off upon sign up. They will send you a cheque like a redemption offer.

ahh understood.

they actually have a £52.88 setup charge (i am not migrating as at the moment I have nothing, live @ home with parents)

trying to get hold of ADSL24 to see what their setup charge is.

well i have it my older brother has it and i think 2-3 members on here have Titan. They are fairly new but have a small cmr base which gives you a more personal feel to the service, not saying adsl24 wont give you a good service, but again i prefer TitanADSL, friendly people.

I will say ADSL24, UKFSN, Titan, Vivaciti, Falcon and Aquiss are more or less the same. I am with Aquiss.
i would say the same apart from aquiss which are more expensive! overall TitanADSL for me.
