I'm not having much fun with the BT Homehub v2, and I've been trying to get my Netgear DG834G v3 working with it, to no avail.

The instructions in the manual on how to setup a different router say, set the username to "[email protected]" and no password is required. There should apparently be no need for a password, but try "bt" or "password" incase the router "needs" one.

Still nothing.

I've also tried the username "[email protected]" like on the BT Homehub. Still nothing.

The connection test on the router says that there's a connection, however. I'm unable to few any websites or ping anything, so I'm assuming there's an authorisation problem.

Has anyone else tried to get this to work and had problems? Or does anyone have a solution?

Cheers,

I had the following emails..

"Your BT Total Broadband service details – 1 of 2"

"Your BT Total Broadband service details – 2 of 2"

First one contained my username for broadband (name @btinternet.com)

Second one contained my password. This is 100% typed into my router. Never used the homehub

Hmmm, it doesn't seem to help that it appears my mum's written down her username and password wrong then. Though I did spend a lot of time trying out all the different combinations to see if it worked. Maybe I timed out the number of attempts I could do? Or didn't wait long enough for it to authenticate?

Call BT, they should be able to help you.

They do email you (and I think they post you the details too) login details when you sign up

So I've got two conflicting reports that I need a username/password and I don't! All very confusing...

The main reason is to do with online gaming. I never had any problems with connecting to friends on the PS3 with my old Netgear. Since I swapped to the Homehub, I've never been able to do it, so I just want to go back to that.

I've faffed around with port forwarding, DMZ, all sorts.

right....just to clarify, you DON'T need a password if you use the HH, you DO need the password and username if you try and use the netgear. You will also need to set the other parameters for BT like VCI etc. for it to connect.
I reckon the username you need is : [email protected] and password is bt

oh and just to clarify, I've never had any problems with connecting a ps3 or an xbox or anything to my homehub apart from a blackberry. however, I always change the default settings and set static ip's for many devices, and set static devices in the homehub advanced config which solves many issues.

I did say above that I've never used my homehub

But you do need the username/password for a 3rd party router, (I assumed you would need them too for HH)

Turns out since we ordered out Infinity upgrade, the account had been suspended, which could explain why literally none of the combinations of username/password worked. Can't even login to bt.yahoo.com email either, which if I remember correctly, uses the same username and password as the broadband connection.

"Everything should be working by Monday."

Great... /sarc
