Hello,

I have decided to use a mesh Wi-Fi setup to overcome some dead spots in my house (power line and wired connection not an option) and have recently purchased both BT Whole Home and Eero whilst they were on offer.

I haven’t opened them yet so researching them and trying to decide which to keep.

Which would the forum recommend between the two?

Are there any key differences to be aware of?

One thing I have read about is that the Eero includes it own router and is designed to replace the existing router, whilst the BT system has no router and simply acts as access points for the existing router.

I have seen some people argue this makes the Eero far superior for its routing and mesh behaviour.

I have also seen the counter argument that as most UK ISPs provide combined modem/router units the BT approach is actually better suited to the UK.

Is there truth in these arguments?

Thanks

I haven't tried either (and hadn't even heard of Eero until now).

I'd assume that the Eero doesn't have a modem which you'll need for ADSL or VDSL. That means you'll need to provide your own or connect it to BT's router.

If you do connect it to BT's router you'll either have to configure it as an access point (disabling all of it's routing features) or end up with double-NAT (usually not the end of the world, but best avoided).

As above, you won't be using the router functions of the Eero anyway as it can't create PPPoE connections. Basically unless you're on TalkTalk or Virgin Media it will just function like a bunch of APs. I'm also not that keen on Amazon in general.

Google Nest Wi-Fi has a smart assistant thing built into the remote units, I would expect to see Amazon roll Eero features into the Echo Plus at some point.
