So, it's been 9 days since BT disconnected us leaving us without internet and we've got to wait till this coming Tuesday / Wednesday till Sky activate our phone line.

Lucky enough our next door neighbour has BT and they have FON enabled and so I connected to it and in order to get 1 hours access it's £4!

Obviously I decided to pay as I'm here now but £4 for 1 hour is daylight robbery :o

Also considering that the connection feels like being back on 56k!

Bring on Sky and the 18Mb connection ( it's the fastest we can get :( )

At least you're not on talktalk. When we moved in here, we told them the address we'd be moving in and the date to get the line activated. After two months they still hadn't got us up and running. That was the final straw. So I moved to plusnet who set us up immediately and I told talktalk to go **** themselves. Worst ISP I've ever had, talktalk.

never used the bt wifi, easier to run with unlimited mobile data for me phone. and i only ever use my laptop at home or uni so wifi access [in the former at least] aint an issue

could be worse, know a guy who's stuck on a 60k "broadband" connection that'll drop out in the slightest of winds

Just get a prepaid wifi dongle. Much cheaper and handy as backup.

Thats funny because you paid for the rollout of Infinity with your taxes. And this is how they repay all the state aid they required. By shafting you for £4 an hour for a temp internet connection.

Dont forget the £1 billion pound they managed to spend buying the rights to Uefa games for BT Sport also even after they told everyone they needed state aid to begin a FTTC rollout. Ah yes good old BT where would we be without them!

If you have T-Mobile (possibly EE) as your mobile network then some of the packages give you free BT WiFi so you could use this with your phone...

Aircrack is your answer :D.

Seriously though it's such a rip off. If it was blazing fast £4 for a hour would be worth it but you really don't get much :(.

And await the pain that is Sky "customer support" when (and it will) something goes wrong ..........

disclaimer - BT are just as bad (CS wise)

Yet you still paid the £4 to log on here and tell us all this lol

I moved from Sky as in my area they wouldn't provide unlimited so I was a sky connect customer meaning I am affected by traffic at peak time and was getting 1mb and contant drops , Moved to BT constant 12-15mb no drops since joining and they introduced fibre last month ... Go on sky's Twitter and look at the complaints

I can't recommend SKY specially after the customer service

Surely you can just log in to the FON with your BT details, and you get it .... free. But it is very slow, and cruddy.

Ask your neighbour nicely if you can use their download til your sorted. Cant hurt

BT are a ****ing shambles, I signed up for infinity2 in May with a years line rental at £147 or so, I had a better offer from Sky when I rang them to leave so cancelled the BT order within the 7 day period.

Multiple phone calls to them and I'm still waiting for them to refund that £147 to my credit card.

Sky are crap. Get ready to pay a load of unmentioned fees for not having all their other services.

Yes indeedy, couldn't wait to get away from them after they swallowed up O2.

Nice cheap broadband. And a cheap surplus for not having Sky TV. And a cheap surplus for not having Sky phone.

When you started adding it up, suddenly it wasn't quite as cheap as it was before

I miss O2 broadband :(. Whilst it wasn't the fastest around at least you had a static IP and great CS(until they outsourced).

When we moved here BT gave us free FON access until they sent someone around to get the broadband working. I thought this was standard practice?

Admittedly it was shocking for anything other than light web browsing, but at the time better than nothing (nowadays my Three plan would function as a safety net).
