guys ive returned home from uni with my pc and im trying to connect back up to my home wireless network. But cant......

Im using a Bt Voyager 2110 router connected via ethernet to the mains pc. My little bro uses his laptop with a wireless network receiver and i have the same receiver connected to my PC.

Basically, the hard wired pc connects perfectly and so does my little brothers lap top.

My PC connects to the network, but Halts when the 'acquiring IP address' action is taking place. It simply does nothing from thereon.

Ive run 'command' and then 'ipconfig' and basically, i have no IP addresses listed!

any help much appreciated.

Thanks mate - ill have a check - only thing is, it was working fine about 2 months ago before i went to uni. At uni i was connected to a different wireless network

How do i check for DCHP?

ok, every time i run ipconfig from my pc that isnt connecting it get nothing. absoloutely nothing at all. Looks like i have no ip address asigned to my comp for some reason.

ive run:
ipconfig/flushdns
ipconfig/registerdns
ipconfig/release
ipconfig/renew
ipconfig/all

and still nothing. When i click repair it just sits there at the 'renewing IP address' part. This is so annoying!

Log into the router and have a look. Or another way is to have a look at the network connection settings on a machine that can connect. If the "Obtain an IP Address automatically" option is checked, then make sure its the same on your machine.

ok ive tried entering the information in manually now and still, i have the same problem.

Its weird, if i enter the information manually, such as a unique I.P for me, the gateway of my router and the DNS info, i can complete the 'repair' function but still cannot actually access the internet.

So ive gone back to trying to 'obtain an ip address automatically'. And still, no joy, Ive rest my pc, the router and used 'Winsock'. Ive also checked the router settings and all seems fine.

Im thinking that something has happened when i was at uni. I was connected to a different wireless network there. When i got back home, i reinstalled the drivers etc for the wireless adapter on my pc and tried to connect but no joy.

According to the network utility, im connected to the home network but it simply wont acquire a network address.

grrrrrrrrrrrrr

ok, ive now taken m pc downstairs and have hard wired it into the router with the help of an ethernet cable and it connects to the internet beautifully.

Only thing is that i can guarantee when i go upstairs it wont connect wirelessly. Anything i should do whilst ive got my PC wired into the router before i take it back upstairs?

Does the router have MAC address filtering enabled? I know on some BT routers you can enable this for the wireless connections.

I suspect your MAC address of the laptop isn't permitted in the Router.

Easy test - temporarily disable MAC address filtering in the router - do you get an IP address assigned to the laptop?

Check you connections settings to the wifi network. Make sure you are using the correct method (WPA/WPA2/WEP) and style (TKIP/AES).

Also check that you are tying to use a certificate for connection, as is the norm at uni.
