Currently with BT on their Max ADSL package 3. I should be getting a maximum of 4mb and a minimum of 2.8mb. The reality is that I've never had more than 0.9mb and recently that had fallen to 460kb and today it fell to an all-time low of 300kb.

I have plugged my Hub into my master socket with no difference. Last week I contacted BT and they found a 'problem' with my line and today I received two text messages on my answer phone telling me thewre was no problem. They are trying to say that there may be a problem with my internal wiring and want to charge me for an egineer to visit but as my house is pretty new and BT fitted all the wiring, isn't it still their problem to fix?

My master socket has wires connecting to terminals 2 and 5 but my extension sockets have no connections, is this normal? I'm at the end of my tether with this and not at all happy with BT. I still have some time left on my contract with them but feel I am free to tell them to shove it as they haven't provided the service that I'm paying for.

the 4mb connection is labelled as "upto" 4mb. So as long as they are providing you with some form of internet, they should have their end of the contract covered.

So you might find it rather difficult to cancel the rest of your contract unless BT are feeling nice and you both end the contract mutually.

As for problems with broadband, BT claim that Sky boxes, plasma TVs, rain, sunlight, streetlights, mopeds, cosmic radiation, psychic thought projection, ipod being played 3 blocks away can all interfere with the quality of your broadband connection.

Read it again matey. I'm on the max adsl package which promises me speeds of up to 8mb. BT claim my line should definitely give me 4mb with a minimum of 2.8mb at any one time. I am not getting the speeds I was promised, not by a long shot. :(

Does it say in the contract that you will get a minimum of 4mb? I mean in the small print - not in the advertising.

In my house I can subscribe to the 8mb package if I want, but the max speeds my line will support is around 2mb.

Well, after complaining for nearly three weeks about tha lack of service and being on the phone to Mumbai almost every day I have finally got a result. I continually pointed out to BT that in their speed test I was rated as having a throughput of 500kb when I should have been around 8000kb but BT continually insisted everything was alright from their side.

I always ran a speed test before calling and what a surprise I got today, no apology for messing me about but if this speed stays then I might just forgive them (after I get a refund for two months of poor speed that is).

Not quite. You're promised nothing, and what BT claim is an estimate (and clearly marked as such).
Throughput <400kbps is classified as a fault, anything above that isn't (Sticky Profile Syndrome and general instability aside).

Without the result of the BT Speedtester, and statistics from your router (attenuation, SNR margin, sync rate), it's impossible to comment specifically.
